ما كَذَبْتُ ولاكُذِّبْتُ.

دروغ نگفتم و دروغم نخوانده‌اند.

I have never lied nor have I been accused of lying.

ما ضَلَلْتُ ولاضُلَّ بِي.

گمراه نشدم و به من گمراه نشده‌اند.

I have never strayed [from the right path] nor has anyone gone astray because of me.

ما نَزَلَتْ آيَةٌ إلاّ وَقَدْ عَلِمْتُ فيما نَزَلَتْ وأيْنَ نَزَلَتْ، في نَهار، أوْ لَيْل، في جَبَل، أوْ سَهْل، وإنَّ رَبِّي وَهَبَ لِي قَلْباً عَقُولاً، ولِساناً قَؤُولاً.

آیه‌ای نازل نشد مگر آن که دانستم در چه چیز نازل شد و کجا نازل شد، در روز یا شب، در کوه یا دشت. و پروردگارم دل فهمیده و زبان گویا به من بخشیده است.

No verse [of the Qur’an] was revealed but that I knew the occasion of its revelation and where it was revealed, [whether] in daytime or night, on a mountain or a plain; and my Lord has gifted me with an intelligent heart and an eloquent tongue.

نَحْنُ أقَمْنا عَمُودَ الْحَقِّ، وهَزَمْنا جُيُوشَ الباطِلِ. [^1]: This tradition falls under the subject of giving charity. [^2]: Surah al-Ra’d [13]:7 [^3]: A male bee which is followed by the other bees. [^4]: Part of the sermon was delivered after he became the Khalifa. [^5]: Because he had already reached the peak of certitude. [^6]: An expression that conveys humility as it was only slaves and prisoners who would ride on the hinds of camels. [^7]: Al-Noor [24]:63 [^8]: This is a plant with sharp prickles.

ما ستونِ حق را برپا داشتیم و لشکرهای باطل را شکست دادیم.

We have established the pillar of truth and vanquished the forces of falsehood.

اَلْحُمْقُ اَلاِسْتِهْتارُ بِالفُضُولِ، ومُصاحَبَةُ الْجَهُولِ.

حمق بی‌پروایی در زیادی‌خواهی و همنشینی با نادان است.

Foolishness is occupying oneself with the superfluous and accompanying the ignorant.

اَلْحُمْقُ داءٌ لا يُداوى، ومَرَضٌ لا يَبْرَءُ.

حمق دردی است درمان‌ناپذیر و بیماری‌ای بی‌بهبود.

Foolishness is an ailment which cannot be remedied and a sickness that cannot be cured.

أفْقَرُ الفَقْرِ الْحُمْقُ.

فقرآورترینِ فقرها حمق است.

The worst indigence is foolishness.

أضَرُّ شَـيْء الحُمْقُ.

زیان‌بارترینِ چیزها حمق است.

The most harmful thing is foolishness.

أحْمَقُ الْحُمْقِ الاِغْتِرارُ.

احمقانه‌ترینِ حماقت‌ها فریب‌خوردن است.

The height of foolishness is being beguiled [by the pleasures of this world].

أكْبَرُ الْحُمْقِ اَلإغْراقُ فِي المَدْحِ والذَّمِّ.

بزرگ‌ترینِ حماقت‌ها زیاده‌روی در ستایش و نکوهش است.

The greatest foolishness is exaggeration in praise and censure.

أعْظَمُ الْحَماقَةِ اَلاِخْتِيالُ فِي الفاقَةِ.

بزرگ‌ترینِ حماقت خودنمایی در نیازمندی است.

The greatest foolishness is being conceited in [the state of] poverty.

فَقْرُ الْحُمْقِ لايُغْنيهِ الْمالُ.

فقرِ حمق را مال توانگر نکند.

The poverty of foolishness is not alleviated by [material] wealth.

مِنْ كَمالِ الْحَماقَةِ الاِخْتِيالُ فيِ الفاقَةِ.
