بِئسَ الرَّفيقُ الحَسُودُ.
رفیقِ حسود چه بد رفیقی است!
How evil a comrade the envious one is!
تَمَسَّكْ بِكُلِّ صَديق أفادَتْكَهُ الشِّدَّةُ، (أفادكَ نَكْبَةُ الشِّدَّةِ).
به هر دوستی که سختی نصیبت کرده، چنگ بزن.
Hold on to every friend who is brought close to you by hard times (and who benefits you in times of distress).
تَحَبَّبْ إلى خَليلِكَ يُحْبِبْكَ، وأكرِمْهُ يُكْرِمْكَ وآثِرْهُ على نَفْسِكَ يُؤثِرْكَ على نَفسِهِ وأهْلِهِ.
به دوستت محبت ورز تا دوستت بدارد و گرامیش دار تا گرامیت دارد و او را بر خود مقدم دار تا تو را بر خود و کسانش مقدم دارد.
Be warm-hearted to your friend and he will be warm-hearted towards you, honour him and he will honour you, give him preference over yourself and he will give you preference over himself and his family.
جَليسُ الخَيرِ نِعْمَةٌ.
همنشینِ خیر نعمت است.
A good companion is a blessing.
جَليسُ الشّرِّ نِقْمَةٌ.
همنشینِ شر نقمت است.
An evil companion is a curse.
جالِسْ أهْلَ الوَرَعِ والحِكْمَةِ، وأكثِرْ مُناقَشَتَهُمْ، فإنَّكَ إنْ كُنتَ جاهلاً عَلَّمُوكَ، وإنْ كُنْتَ عالِماً إزدَدْتَ عِلماً.
با اهل پارسایی و حکمت مجالست کن و بسیار با آنان مباحثه کن که اگر نادانی بیاموزندت و اگر دانی بر دانشت افزوده شود.
Sit in the company of the people of piety and wisdom and increase your discourse with them, for if you are ignorant they will enlighten you and if you are knowledgeable, you will increase your knowledge.
حُسنُ الصُّحْبَةِ يَزيدُ في مَحَبَّةِ القُلُوبِ.
نیکو همنشینی بر محبت دل‌ها بیفزاید.
Good companionship increases the affection of the hearts.
حَسَدُ الصَّديقِ مِنْ سُقْمِ المَوَدَّةِ.
حسادت دوست، از بیماریِ دوستی است.
The jealousy of a friend is an ailment of [his] friendship.
خَيْرُ الاِختيارِ صُحبَةُ الأخيارِ.
بهترینِ انتخاب، همنشینی با نیکان است.
The best choice is accompanying the righteous.
خيرُ مَنْ صاحَبْتَ ذَوُوا العِلْمِ والحِلمِ.
بهترینِ همنشینان، اهل دانش و بردباری‌اند.
The best of those whom you can accompany are the people of knowledge and insight.
خَيْرُ مَنْ صَحِبْتَهُ مَنْ لايُحوِجُكَ إلى حاكِم بَينَكَ وبيْنَهُ.
بهترینِ همنشینان آن است که تو را به داوری میان خود و او نیازمند نکند.
The best person you can accompany is the one who does not compel you to seek adjudication between yourself and him.
خَيرُ مَنْ صَحِبْتَ مَنْ وَلَّهَكَ بالاُخرى، وزَهَّدَكَ في الدُّنيا، وأعانَكَ على طاعةِ المَولى.
بهترینِ همنشینان آن است که تو را به آخرت متوجه کند و در دنیا زاهدت سازد و بر طاعت مولی یاریت کند.
The best companion is one who makes you infatuated with the Hereafter, urges you to renounce worldly pleasures and assists you in obeying your Lord.
خَليلُ المَرءِ دَليلٌ على عَقْلِهِ، وكَلامُهُ بُرهانُ فَضْلِهِ.
دوستِ مرد بر خِرَد او دلالت کند و سخنش بر فضل او برهان است.
A man’s friend is a sign of his intelligence and his speech is evidence of his merit.
خَيْرُ كُلِّ شَيْء جديدُهُ، وخَيْرُ الإخْوانِ أقدَمُهُمْ.
بهترینِ هر چیز نویِ آن است و بهترینِ برادران کهنه‌ترینِ آنان.
The best of all things is that which is newer, but the best of brothers is the oldest of them.
خَيرُ الإخْوانِ أعْوَنُهُمْ عَلى الخَيْرِ، وأعْمَلُهُمْ بِالبِرِّ، وأرْفَقُهُمْ بِالمُصاحِبِ.
بهترینِ برادران آن است که بر خیر یاورتر و به نیکی عامل‌تر و با همنشین مهربان‌تر باشد.
The best brother is the most helpful of them in [performing] good deeds, the most active in doing good deeds and the most affable in companionship.
رُبَّ صَديق حَسُود.
بسا دوستی که حسود است.
Many a friend may be envious.
رُبَّ صَديق يُؤتى(يُؤبى) مِنْ جَهْلِهِ لامِنْ نيَّتِهِ.
بسا دوستی که از نادانی‌اش آسیب رسد، نه از نیتش.
Many a friend is scorned because of his ignorance, not because of his intention.
زَيْنُ المُصاحَبَةِ الإحتِمالُ.
زینت همنشینی، تحمّل است.
The beauty of companionship is tolerance.
شَرُّ إخوانِكَ مَنْ أرْضاكَ بالباطِلِ.
بدترینِ برادرانت آن است که تو را به باطل خشنود سازد.
The worst of your brothers is the one who makes you accept falsehood.
