ما تَواخى قَوْمٌ على غَيرِ ذاتِ اللّه سُبْحانَهُ إلاّ كانَتْ اُخُوَّتُهُمْ علَيْهِم تِرَةً يَوْمَ العَرْضِ علَى اللّهِ سُبْحانَهُ.
هیچ قومی بر غیرِ ذات خدای سبحان برادری نکنند، مگر آن‌که برادری‌شان در روز عرض بر خدا، بر ضدّشان مایهٔ زیان شود.
How numerous are friends during times of prosperity and how few they are during the difficult times!
مَوتُ الأخِ قَصُّ الجَناحِ واليَدِ.
مرگ برادر، بریده‌شدنِ بال و دست است.
No community has established brotherhood for other than seeking the pleasure of Allah, the Glorified, but that their brotherhood will be counted as a sin against them on the day when the deeds are presented to Allah, the Glorified.
نِظامُ المُرُوَّةِ حُسْنُ الاُخُوَّةِ، ونِظامُ الدّينِ حُسنُ اليَقينِ.
نظامِ جوانمردی نیکو برادری است و نظامِ دین نیکو یقین.
Death of a brother is like having wings clipped and hands cut.
لاتَصْرِمْأخاكَ علَى ارْتياب، ولاتَهْجُرهُ بَعدَ اسْتِعتاب.
برادرت را به گمانِ بد مبُر و پس از عذرخواهی ترکش مکن.
The order of humanity is based on righteous brotherhood and the order of religion is based on unshakable certainty.
لاتُضَيِّعَنَّ حَقَّ أخيكَ اتِّكالاً على ما بَينَكَ وبَينَهُ فَليسَ لَكَ بأخ مَنْ أضَعْتَ حَقَّهُ.
حق برادرت را به اتکای آنچه میان شماست ضایع مکن که آن که حقش را ضایع کنی، برادرت نیست.
Do not sever ties with your brother because of some doubt that you have, and do not abandon him after he has sought [your] pardon.
لاتُواخِ مَنْ يَستُرُ مَناقِبَكَ ويَنْشُرُ مثالِبَكَ.
با آن‌که فضیلت‌هایت را بپوشاند و عیب‌هایت را پخش کند، برادری مکن.
Do not neglect the rights of your brother out of confidence in your close relationship with him, for he whose rights you neglect is not your brother.
لاتَطْلُبَنَّ الإخاءَ عِندَ أهْلِ الجَفاءِ واطلُبْهُ عِندَ أهلِ الحِفاظِ والوَفاءِ.
برادری را نزد اهل جفا مجوی و آن را نزد اهل پاسداری و وفا بجوی.
Do not take as a brother one who hides your positive traits and exposes your shortcomings.
لا خَيرَ فيمَنْ يَهْجُرُ أخاهُ مِنْ غيرِ جُرم.
در آن‌که برادرش را بی‌گناه ترک کند، خیری نیست.
Do not seek brotherhood [and friendship] among the uncouth people, rather seek it among the trustworthy and loyal people.
لاخيرَ في أخ لايُوجِبُ لَكَ مِثلَ الَّذي يُوجبُ لِنَفْسِهِ.
در برادری که برای تو آن را نخواهد که برای خود می‌خواهد، خیری نیست.
There is no good in the one who abandons his brother without [him committing] any offence.
يُغْتَنَمُ مُؤاخاةُ الأخيارِ، ويُجّتَنَبُ مُصاحَبَةُ الأشرارِ والفُجَّارِ.
برادری با نیکان را غنیمت شمارند و از همنشینی با بدان و تبهکاران بپرهیزند.
There is no good in the brother who does not enjoin on you what he enjoins on himself.
إيّاكَ ومُصادَقَةَ الكَذَّابِ، فإنّهُ يُقَرِّبُ عَلَيكَ الْبَعيدَ، ويُبَعِّدُ علَيكَ القَريبَ.
از دوستی با دروغگو بپرهیز که دور را بر تو نزدیک کند و نزدیک را بر تو دور.
The brotherhood of the righteous is to be considered beneficial whereas association with the wicked and sinful is to be avoided.
إيّاك أنْ تُخرِجَ صَديقَكَ إخراجاً يُخرِجُهُ عَنْ مَودَّتِكَ وَاستَبْقِ لَهُ مِنْ اُنْسِكَ مَوْضِعاً يَثِقُ بالرُّجوعِ إليهِ.
زنهار دوستت را چنان بیرون مکن که از دوستی‌ات خارج شود و برای او از انسِ خود جایی باقی گذار که به بازگشت بدان دلگرم باشد.
Be careful not to accept the words of a liar, for he will bring close to you that which is far and take far away from you that which is close.
إيّاكَ أنْ تُوحِشَ مُوادَّكَ وَحْشةً تُفضي بهِ إلى اختيارِهِ البُعدَ عَنْكَ، وَإيثارِ الفُرْقَةِ.
زنهار دوستدارت را چنان وحشتزده کنی که دوری از تو و جدایی را برگیرد.
Be careful not to drive away your friend in a way that removes all the affection he has for you, and leave some room from your friendship for him so that he may rely on returning back to it.
إيّاكَ وصُحبَةَ مَنْ ألهاكَ، وأغراكَ، فإنّهُ يَخْذُلُكَ ويُوبِقُكَ.
از همنشینی با آن‌که غافلت سازد و [به بدی] برانگیزد بپرهیز که تو را واگذارد و به هلاکت افکند.
Be careful not to alienate the one who has affection for you in such a manner that he opts to distance himself and prefers to separate himself from you.
إيّاكَ ومُصاحَبَةَ أهلِ الفُسُوقِ، فإنّ الرَّاضيَ بِفِعْلِ قَوْم كالدَّاخِلِ مَعَهُمْ.
از همنشینی با اهل فسق بپرهیز که خشنود به کردار قومی، چون همراه آنان است.
Be careful not to associate with the one who makes you negligent and deceives you, for he will surely forsake you and destroy you.
إيّاكُمْ ومُصادَقَةَ الفاجِرِ، فإنّهُ يَبيعُ مُصادِقَهُ بِالتَّافِهِ المُحتَقَرِ.
از دوستی با تبهکار بپرهیز که دوستش را به چیز بی‌ارزشی بفروشد.
Be careful not to associate with the sinners, for verily one who is pleased with the actions of a group is like one of them.
أكثَرُ الصَّلاحِ والصَّوابِ في صُحبَةِ اُولِي النُّهى والألبابِ.
بیشترِ صلاح و صواب در همنشینی با خردمندان است.
Be careful not to befriend a wicked person, for he would surely sell his friendship for the most worthless of things.
أحسَنُ الشِّيَمِ إكْرامُ المُصاحِبِ، وَإسْعافُ الطَّالِبِ.
نیکوترینِ خوی‌ها گرامی‌داشتنِ همنشین و یاری‌رسانی به طالب است.
It is better and more appropriate to associate with people of wisdom and intelligence.
أشرَفُ الشِّيَمِ رِعايَةُ الوُدِّ، وأحسَنُ الهِمَمِ إنجازُ الوَعدِ.
شریف‌ترینِ خوی‌ها پاسداشتِ دوستی است و نیکوترینِ همت‌ها وفا به وعده.
The best habits are honouring one’s companion and assisting one who seeks help.
