بهترینِ برادران آن است که نسبت به برادرانش سخت‌گیر نباشد.
The best of your brothers is the one who supports you, and better than him is the one who suffices for you, and when he needs you, he excuses you [if you are unable to assist him].
حکمت ۳۴۲ — موضوع ۸ · The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The CompanionSaying 342 — The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The Companionخَيرُ إخوانِكَ مَنْ كَثُرَ إغضابُهُ لَكَ في الحقِّ.
بهترینِ برادرانت آن است که در راه حق بسیار تو را به خشم آوَرَد.
The best of brothers is one who does not scrutinize his brothers.
حکمت ۳۴۳ — موضوع ۸ · The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The CompanionSaying 343 — The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The Companionاَلصَّديقُ أفْضَلُ الذُخرَينِ.
دوست برترینِ دو اندوخته است.
The best of your brothers is the one whose anger at you increases in matters pertaining to the truth.
حکمت ۳۴۴ — موضوع ۸ · The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The CompanionSaying 344 — The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The Companionاَلصَّدِيقُ أفضلُ العُدَّتَينِ.
دوست برترینِ دو توشه است.
A friend is the better of the two resources.

دوست برترینِ توشه و پایدارترینِ دوستی است.
A friend is the better of the two assets.
حکمت ۳۴۶ — موضوع ۸ · The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The CompanionSaying 346 — The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The Companionالصَّديقُ إنسانٌ هُوَ أنتَ إلاّ أنّهُ غيْرُكَ.
دوست انسانی است که توست، جز آن‌که غیرِ توست.
A friend is a better asset and is more lasting in fondness.
حکمت ۳۴۷ — موضوع ۸ · The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The CompanionSaying 347 — The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The Companionاَلصَّديقُ الصَّدوُقُ مَنْ نَصَحَكَ في عَيبكَ وحَفِظَكَ في غَيبِكَ وَآثرَكَ على نَفْسِهِ.
دوستِ راستین آن است که در عیبت خیرخواهت باشد و در غیابت پاسدارت و تو را بر خود مقدم دارد.
A friend is a person who is ‘you’ except that he is other than you.
حکمت ۳۴۸ — موضوع ۸ · The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The CompanionSaying 348 — The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The Companionالحازمُ مَنْ تَخيَّرَ لِخُلَّتِهِ فإنَّ المَرْءَ يُوزَنُ بخَلِيلِهِ.
دوراندیش آن است که برای دوستی‌اش برگزیند؛ چرا که آدمی به دوستش سنجیده شود.
The truthful friend is one who advises you of your faults protects your dignity in your absence and gives you preference over himself.
حکمت ۳۴۹ — موضوع ۸ · The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The CompanionSaying 349 — The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The Companionاَلأصدِقاءُ نَفسٌ واحِدَةٌ في جُسُومِ مُتفَرِّقَة.
دوستان جانی واحدند در تن‌هایی پراکنده.
The wise person is one who selects his friend carefully, for a man is gauged by his friend.
حکمت ۳۵۰ — موضوع ۸ · The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The CompanionSaying 350 — The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The Companionالصَّديقُ مَنْ كانَ ناهِياً عَنِ الظُّلمِ والعُدْوانِ مُعيناً علَى البِرِّ وَالإحسان ِ.
دوست آن است که از ستم و تعدی باز دارد و بر نیکی و احسان یاری کند.
Friends are one soul in different bodies.
حکمت ۳۵۱ — موضوع ۸ · The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The CompanionSaying 351 — The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The Companionإصحَبْ مَنْ لا تَراهُ إلاّ وكَأنّهُ لاغَناءَ بِهِ عَنْكَ، وإنْ أسَأتَ إلَيهِ أحسَنَ إلَيكَ وكَأنّهُ المُسيءُ.
با آن‌که همنشین شو که جز چنین نبینی که از تو بی‌نیاز نیست و اگر به او بدی کنی، به تو نیکی کند و گویی او بدی‌کننده است.
The [true] friend is he who forbids [one from] injustice and wrongdoing while helping [one] to perform good deeds and be righteous.
حکمت ۳۵۲ — موضوع ۸ · The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The CompanionSaying 352 — The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The Companionمَنْ لا (أخا) إخاءَ لَهُ لا خَيرَ فيهِ.
آن را که برادری‌ای ندارد، خیری نیست.
Keep the company of one whom you find cannot do without you, and if you do something bad to him he responds with good, as if he was the one at fault.
حکمت ۳۵۳ — موضوع ۸ · The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The CompanionSaying 353 — The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The Companionمَنْ جانَبَ الإخْوانَ على كُلِّ ذَنْب قَلَّ أصدِقاؤُهُ.
هر که بر سرِ هر گناهی از برادران بگذرد، دوستانش کم شود.
One who has no brother (or brotherhood) has no goodness in him.
حکمت ۳۵۴ — موضوع ۸ · The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The CompanionSaying 354 — The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The Companionمَنِاسْتَفْسَدَ صَديقَهُ نَقَصَ مِنْ عَدَدِهِ.
هر که دوستش را تباه کند، از شمارگانش کاسته شود.
One who turns away from his brothers because of every [small] misdeed will have few friends.
حکمت ۳۵۵ — موضوع ۸ · The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The CompanionSaying 355 — The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The Companionمَنْ صَحِبَ الأشرارَ لَمْ يَسْلَمْ.
هر که با بدان همنشین شود، سلامت نمانَد.
One who spoils [his relationship with] his friend has reduced his own number.
حکمت ۳۵۶ — موضوع ۸ · The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The CompanionSaying 356 — The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The Companionمَنِاهْتَمَّ بِكَ فَهُوَ صَديقُكَ.
هر که به [کار] تو اندیشد، دوست توست.
One who accompanies evildoers will not be safe [from them].
حکمت ۳۵۷ — موضوع ۸ · The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The CompanionSaying 357 — The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The Companionمَنْ أحْسَنَ المُصاحَبَةَ كثُرَ أصحابُهُ.
هر که نیکو همنشینی کند، یارانش فزون شوند.
Whoever is concerned about you, then he is your [true] friend.
حکمت ۳۵۸ — موضوع ۸ · The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The CompanionSaying 358 — The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The Companionمَنْ جالَسَ الجُهّالَ فَلْيَستَعِدَّ لِلْقيلِ والقالِ.
هر که با نادانان مجالست کند، باید آمادهٔ قيل و قال باشد.
One whose company is good will have many companions.
حکمت ۳۵۹ — موضوع ۸ · The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The CompanionSaying 359 — The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The Companionمَنْ لَمْ يَتَعاهَدْ مُوادِدَهُ فَقَدْضَيَّعَ الصَّديقَ.
هر که دوستانش را سرکشی نکند، دوست را ضایع کرده است.
One who sits in the company of the ignorant should be prepared for fruitless talk and gossip.
حکمت ۳۶۰ — موضوع ۸ · The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The CompanionSaying 360 — The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The Companionمَنِاسْتَقْصى على صَديقِهِ انْقطَعَتْ مَوَدَّتُهُ.
هر که بر دوستش سخت گیرد، دوستی‌اش گسسته شود.
One who does not attend to the needs of the one who shows friendship towards him has lost a friend.
