جارُ الدُّنيْا مَحْرُوبٌ، ومَوْفُورُها مَنْكُوبٌ.

The one who seeks refuge in this world is ruined and the one who takes his fill from it is destroyed.

جُودُ الدُّنْيا فَناءٌ، وراحَتُها عَناءٌ، وسَلامَتُها عَطَبٌ ومَواهِبُها سَبَبٌ.
بخشندگیِ دنیا فناست و آسایشش رنج و سلامتیش تباهی و بخشش‌هایش سبب [محنت].
The bounty of this world is transient, its comfort is [marred by] trouble, its soundness is destruction and its gifts are taken away.
حُبُّ الدُّنْيا رَأسُ كُلِّ خَطيئَة.
دوستیِ دنیا سرآمدِ هر خطایی است.
Love of this world is the source of every misdeed.
حُبُّ الدُّنْيا رَأسُ الفِتَنِ وأصْلُ المِحَنِ.
دوستیِ دنیا سرآمدِ فتنه‌ها و ریشهٔ محنت‌هاست.
Love of this world is the source of trials and the root of tribulations.
حُبُّ الدُّنْيا يُوجِبُ الطَّمَعَ.
دوستیِ دنیا طمع آرَد.
Love of this world gives rise to avarice.
حُبُّ الدُّنْيا يُفْسِدُ العَقْلَ، ويُهِمُّ القَلْبَ، عَنْ سَماعِ الحِكْمَةِ، وَيُوجِبُ أليمَ العِقابِ.
دوستیِ دنیا خِرَد را تباه کند و دل را از شنیدنِ حکمت به اندوه دارد و کیفرِ دردناک آرَد.
Love of this world corrupts the intellect, preoccupies the heart from listening to [words of] wisdom and leads to a painful chastisement [in the Hereafter].
حَلاوَةُ الدُّنْيا تُوجِبُ مَرارَةَ الآخِرَةِ وسُوءَ العُقْبى.
شیرینیِ دنیا تلخیِ آخرت و بدیِ عاقبت آرَد.
The sweetness of this world leads to the bitterness of the Hereafter and an unpleasant ending.
حُلْوُ الدُّنْيا صَبِرٌ، وغِذاؤُها سِمامٌ، وأسْبابُها رُمامٌ.
شیرینِ دنیا صبر است و خوراکش زهرها و اسبابش پوسیده.
The sweets of this world are like myrrh, its foods are poisons and its means are worn-out [and weak] ropes.
حَيُّ الدُّنْيا بِعَرْضِ مَوت، وصَحيحُها عَرَضُ الأسْقامِ، ودَريئَةُ الحِمامِ.
زندهٔ دنیا در معرضِ مرگ است و تندرستش هدفِ بیماری‌ها و نشانه‌گاهِ مرگ.
The living of this world are prone to death and its healthy are prone to sicknesses and the target of [the arrow of] death.
حُكِمَ على أهلِ الدُّنْيا بِالشَّقاءِ، والفَناءِ، والدَّمارِ، وَالبَوارِ.
بر اهلِ دنیا به بدبختی و فنا و ویرانی و نابودی حکم شد.
Wretchedness, annihilation, destruction and ruin have been decreed for the people of this world.
حُفَّتِ الدُّنيا بِالشَّهَواتِ، وتَحَبَّبَتْ بِالعاجِلَةِ، وتَزَيَّنَتْ بِالغُرُورِ وَتَحَلَّتْ بِالآمالِ.
دنیا به شهوت‌ها آراسته شد و به شتابنده دوست‌داشتنی گشت و به فریب خودآرایی کرد و به آرزوها پیراسته شد.
This world has been surrounded with lustful desires, liked for its immediate enjoyments, embellished with deceptions and sweetened with aspirations.
حارِبُوا أنْفُسَكُمْ عَلَى الدُّنيا، واصْرِفُوها عَنْها، فَإنَّها سَريعَةُ الزَّوالِ، كَثيرةُ الزِلْزالِ، وشيكَةُ الانْتِقالِ.
با جان‌هایتان بر سرِ دنیا بجنگید و آنان را از آن بازگردانید؛ چرا که زوالش شتابان و زلزله‌اش بسیار و انتقالش نزدیک است.
Wage war against yourselves for [keeping away from] this world and turn yourselves away from it, for it vanishes quickly, quakes frequently and transfers soon.
حُكِمَ على مُكْثِري أهلِ الدُّنْيا بِالفاقَةِ،وَ أُعِيْنَ مَنْ غَنِيَ عَنْها بِالرَّاحَةِ.
بر بسیاراندازانِ اهلِ دنیا به نیازمندی حکم شد و آن که از آن بی‌نیاز شد به آسایش یاری گشت.
Neediness has been decreed for those from among the people of this world who seek to increase their wealth while those who get along without it have been assisted with comfort.
خَيْرُ الدُّنيْا حَسْرَةٌ، وشَرُّها نَدَمٌ.
خیرِ دنیا حسرت است و شرّش پشیمانی.
The good of this world is [a cause of] sorrow and its evil is [a cause of] regret.
خَيْرُ الدُّنْيا زَهيدٌ، وشَرُّها عَتيدٌ.
خیرِ دنیا اندک و شرّش آماده است.
The good of this world is insignificant and its evil is ready at hand.
خُذْ مِمّا لا يَبْقى لَكَ لِما يَبْقى لَكَ ولا يُفارِقُكَ.
از آنچه تو را نماند برای آنچه تو را ماند و از تو جدا نشود بردار.
Take from that which will not last for you for that which will last for you and will not separate from you.
خُذْ مِنْ قَليلِ الدُّنيا ما يَكْفيكَ، ودَعْ مِنْ كَثيرِها ما يُطْغيكَ.
از اندکِ دنیا آنچه کفایتت کند گیر و از بسیارش آنچه طغیان‌آوردت واگذار.
Take from the little of this world that which suffices you and leave from its abundance that which makes you transgress.
خُذْ مِنَ الدُّنيْا ما أتاكَ، وتَوَلَّ عَمّا تَوَلّى مِنْها عَنْكَ فَإنْ لَمْ تَفْعَلْ فَأجْمِلْ فِي الطَّلَبِ.
از دنیا آنچه به تو آمد گیر و از آنچه از تو روی گرداند بگذر؛ و اگر چنین نکنی، در طلب نیکو باش.
Take from this world that which comes to you and turn away from that which turns away from you, but if you don’t do this then [at least] be moderate in what you seek.
خُلْطَةُ أبْناءِ الدُّنْيا رَأسُ البَلْوى وفَسادُ التَّقوى.
آمیختگی با فرزندانِ دنیا سرآمدِ بلا و تباهیِ تقواست.
Mingling with those who are attached to this world is the primary cause of affliction and corruption of piety.
خُلْطَةُ أبْناءِ الدُّنْيا تَشينُ الدّينَ، وتُضْعِفُ اليَقينَ.
آمیختگی با فرزندانِ دنیا دین را زشت کند و یقین را ناتوان.
Mingling with those who are attached to this world tarnishes religion and weakens certitude.
