الدُّنْيا دارُ الغُرَباءِ، ومَوطِنُ الأشقياءِ.
دنیا خانهٔ غریبان و وطنِ بدبختان است.

الوَلَهُ بِالدُّنْيا أعْظَمُ فِتْنَة.
شیفتگی به دنیا بزرگ‌ترینِ فتنه است.
Infatuation with this world is the greatest trial.
الدُّوْلَةُ كما تُقْبِلُ تُدْبِرُ.
دولت چنان که رو کند پشت کند.
Just as [wealth and] authority comes towards you, it turns away from you.
اَلدُّنْيا كَما تَجْبُرُ تَكْسِرُ.
دنیا چنان که جبران کند شکند.
Just as this world mends, it [also] breaks.
أسبابُ الدُّنْيا مُنْقَطِعَةٌ، وعَواريها مُرْتَجِعَةٌ.
اسبابِ دنیا گسستنی و عاریه‌هایش بازپس‌گرفتنی است.
The means of this world are discontinuous and its loans (i.e. things that human beings are bestowed with temporarily like status, wealth etc.) are [to be] returned.
اَلدُّنْيا حُلُمٌ، والاغْتِرارُ بِها نَدَمٌ.
دنیا خواب است و فریفتگی به آن پشیمانی.
This world is a dream and being deceived by it is [a cause of] regret.
الدُّنْيا سَمٌّ يَأكُلُهُ (اكِلُهُ) مَنْ لا يَعْرِفُهُ.
دنیا زهری است که آن را آن که نشناسد خورد.
This world is a poison that is ingested by the one who does not know it.
الدُّنْيا مَعْدِنُ الشَّـرِّ، ومَحَلُّ الغُرُورِ.
دنیا معدنِ شرّ و جایگاهِ فریب است.
This world is the source of evil and the place of deception.
إنْ عَقَلْتَ أمْرَكَ، أوْ أصَبْتَ مَعْرِفَةَ نَفْسِكَ فَأعْرِضْ عَنِ الدُّنيا، وَازهَدْ فيها، فَإنَّها دارُ الأشقياءِ، ولَيْسَتْ بِدارِ السُّعَداءِ، بَهْجَتُها زُورٌ، وزينَـتُها غُرُورٌ، وسَحائِبُها مُتَقَشِّعَةٌ، ومَواهِبُها مُرْتَجِعَةٌ.
اگر کارت را فهمیدی یا شناختِ خود را به دست آوردی، از دنیا روی بگردان و در آن بی‌رغبتی کن؛ چرا که خانهٔ بدبختان است و نه خانهٔ نیکبختان؛ شادمانی‌اش دروغ و زیورش فریب و ابرهایش پراکنده‌شونده و بخشش‌هایش بازپس‌گرفتنی است.
If you have understood your affair or have been able to recognize yourself then turn away from this world and be uninterested in it, for it is the abode of the wretched and not the abode of the felicitous. Its splendour is spurious, its beauty is deceptive, its clouds are scattered (i.e. its sources of abundance are scarce) and its bounties are taken back.
إنْ كُنْتُمْ لِلنَّعيمِ طالبينَ فَأعْتِقُوا أنْفُسَكُمْ مِنْ دارِ الشَقاءِ.
اگر طالبِ نعمتید، جان‌هایتان را از خانهٔ بدبختی آزاد کنید.
If you are after [abundant] bliss than free yourselves from the abode of wretchedness.
إنْ كُنْتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ اللّهَ فَأخْرِجُوا مِنْ قُلُوبِكُمْ حُبَّ الدُّنيا.
اگر خدا را دوست دارید، دوستیِ دنیا را از دل‌هایتان بیرون کنید.
If you love Allah then remove from your hearts the love of this world.
إنْ جَعَلْتَ دُنْياكَ تَبـَعاً لِدينِكَ أحْرَزْتَ دينَكَ ودُنْياكَ، وكُنْتَ فِي الآخِرَةِ مِنَ الفائِزينَ.
اگر دنیایت را پیروِ دینت سازی، دین و دنیایت را نگاه داری و در آخرت از رستگاران باشی.
If you make your [life in this] world a means of following your religion, you will have saved [both] your religion and your world, and you will be among the successful in the Hereafter.
إنّي طَلَّقْتُ الدُّنْيا ثَلاثاً بَتاتاً لارَجْعَةَ لي فيها، وألْقَيْتُ حَبْلَها على غارِبِها.
من دنیا را سه‌طلاقه بی‌بازگشت طلاق دادم و افسارش را بر کوهانش نهادم.
Verily I have divorced this world thrice uncompromisingly, [such that] there is no return to it for me, and I have released it completely.
إنَّكَ إنْ أقْبَلْتَ إلَى الدُّنْيا أدْبَرْتَ.
اگر به سوی دنیا رو کنی، پشت کنی.
Indeed, if you approach this world you have turned your back [from the Hereafter].[^5]
إنَّكَ إنْ أدبَرْتَ عَنِ الدُّنْيا أقْبَلْتَ.
اگر از دنیا پشت کنی، رو کنی.
Indeed, when you turn your back on this world, you have approached [the Hereafter].[^6]
إنَّكَ لَنْ (لَمْ) تُخلَقَْ لِلدُّنْيا فَأزْهَدْ فيها وأعْرِضْ عَنْها.
تو برای دنیا آفریده نشدی [یا نشده‌ای]؛ پس در آن بی‌رغبتی کن و از آن روی بگردان.
Verily you have not been created for this world, so renounce it and turn away from it.
إنَّكَ إنْ عَمِلْتَ لِلدُّنيا خَسِرَتْ صَفْقَتُكَ.
اگر برای دنیا عمل کنی، معامله‌ات زیان‌دیده است.
If you work for this world, your transaction will have made a loss.
إنَّكَ لَنْ تَلْقَى اللّهَ سُبْحانَهُ بِعَمَل أضَرَّ عَلَيْكَ مِنْ حُبِّ الدُّنْيا.
هرگز خدای سبحان را به عملی زیان‌بارتر بر خود ملاقات نکنی از دوستیِ دنیا.
Verily you will never meet Allah, the Glorified, with an action more harmful to you than love for this world.
إنَّكُمْ إنْ رَغِبْتُم فِي الدُّنْيا أفْنَيْتُمْ أعْمارَكُمْ فيما لا تَبْقُونَ لَهُ ولا يَبْقى لَكُمْ.
اگر به دنیا رغبت کنید، عمرهایتان را در آنچه برای آن نمانید و برای شما نماند فانی کنید.
Indeed, if you crave after this world, you will waste your lives for that which you will not remain for and that which will not remain for you.
إنَّما الدُّنْيا شَرَكٌ وَقَعَ فيهِ مَنْ لا يَعْرِفُهُ.
دنیا دامی است که آن که نشناسدش در آن افتد.
Indeed, this world is only a trap into which those who do not recognize it fall.
