مِنْ أماراتِ الدَّوْلَةِ التَّيَقُّظُ (اليَقْظَـةُ) لِحِراسَةِ الأُمُورِ.
از نشانه‌های دولت بیداری برای پاسداریِ کارهاست.
One of the signs of alternation of power is vigilance in safeguarding affairs.
مِنْ أعْوَدِ الغَنائِمِ دَوْلَةُ الأكارِمِ.
از سودمندترینِ غنیمت‌ها دولتِ بزرگواران است.
The sovereignty of the honourable is one of the most beneficial gains.
مِنْ دَلائِلِ الدَّوْلَةِ قِلَّةُ الغَفْلَةِ.
از دلائلِ دولت کمیِ غفلت است.
From the indicators of alternation of power is decrease of negligence.
ما حُصِّنَ الدُّوَلُ بِمِثْلِ العَدْلِ.
دولت‌ها به چیزی چون عدل مستحکم نشوند.
Nothing protects empires like justice.
يُسْتَدَلُّ على إدْبارِ الدُّوَلِ بِأرْبَع: تَضييعُ الأُصولِ، والتَّمَسُّكُ بِالغُرُورِ، وَ تَقْديمُ الأراذِلِ، وتأخيرُ الأفاضلِ.
بر پشت‌کردنِ دولت‌ها به چهار چیز گواهی دهند: تباهیِ اصول و چنگ‌زدن به فریب و پیش‌کشیدنِ اراذل و پس‌زدنِ فاضلان.
The decline [and imminent fall] of empires is evinced by four things: neglecting the principles [and core values of justice and equity], clinging to vanities, promotion of the wicked and demotion of the virtuous.
دَوْلَةُ الأوْغادِ مَبْنِيَّةٌ علَى الجَورِ والفَسادِ.
دولتِ فرومایگان بر ستم و فساد بنا شده است.
The sovereignty of scoundrels is founded on oppression and corruption.
دَوْلَةُ الأكابِرِ (الاكارِم) مِنْ أفْضَلِ المَغانِمِ.
دولتِ بزرگان [یا بزرگواران] از برترینِ غنیمت‌هاست.
The sovereignty of the great (or honourable) people is one of the best of bounties.
لِكُلِّ دَوْلَة بُرْهَةٌ.
هر دولت را مدتی است.
For every empire there is a period [after which it falls].
لا تُداهِنُوا فَيَقْتَحِمَ بِكُمْ الإدْهانُ علَى المَعصِيَةِ.
چاپلوسی مکنید تا چاپلوسی شما را به نافرمانی درنیندازد.
Do not flatter each other thereby letting flattery plunge you into sin.
بِئسَ القِلادَةُ قِلادَةُ الدَّينِ.
چه بد گردنبندی است گردنبندِ بدهی!
The worst collar is the collar of debt.
كَثْرَةُ الدَّينِ تُصَيِّرُ الصّادِقَ كاذِباً، والمُنْجِزَ مُخْلِفاً.
فزونیِ بدهی راستگو را دروغگو کند و وعده‌برآورنده را خلف‌کار.
Too much debt makes a truthful person a liar and an honest person dishonest.
الدَّينُ أحدُ الرِّقَيْنِ.
بدهی یکی از دو بندگی است.
Debt is one of the two bondages.
الدَّينُ رِقٌّ، اَلقَضاءُ عِتْقٌ.
بدهی بندگی است و پرداختن آزادی.
Debt is bondage, repayment is freedom.
الدِّينُ أشرفُ النَّسَبَيْنِ.
دین شریف‌ترینِ دو نسب است.
Religion is the more honourable of the two lineages.
الدِّينُ والأدَبُ، نَتيجَةُ العَقْلِ.
دین و ادب میوهٔ خِرَد است.
Religion and good manners are a result of intelligence.
أصْلُ الدِّينِ أداءُ الأمانَةِ، والوَفاءُ بِالعُهُودِ.
بنیادِ دین ادای امانت و وفای به پیمان‌هاست.
The foundation of religion is returning trusts [to their owners] and fulfilling pledges.
اِعْلَمْ أنَّ أوَّلَ الدّينِ التَّسليمُ، وآخِرُهُ الإخلاصُ.
بدان که آغازِ دین تسلیم است و پایانش اخلاص.
Know that the beginning of religion is submission and its end is sincere devotion.
ألا وإنَّ شَرايِعَ الدِّينِ واحِدَةٌ، وسُبُلَهُ قاصِدَةٌ، فَمَنْ أخَذَ بِها لَحِقَ وَغَنِمَ، ومَنْ وَقَفَ عَنْها ضَلَّ ونَدِمَ.
آگاه باشید! شرایعِ دین یکی است و راه‌هایش راست؛ پس هر که به آن گیرّد رسد و غنیمت برد و هر که از آن باز ایستد گمراه و پشیمان شود.
Indeed the codes of religion are one and its ways are straight, so the one who follows it arrives [at the destination] and gains [success], and the one who stands away from it strays and regrets.
أيْنَ تَذْهَبُ بِكُمُ المَذاهِبُ؟
مذهب‌ها شما را به کجا برند؟
