سَبَبُ الفُجورِ الخَلْوَةُ.
سببِ فجور خلوت است.
The cause of immorality is seclusion.
مُلازَمَةُ الخَلْوَةِ دَأْبُ الصُّلَحاءِ.
همیشگی‌بودن در خلوت شیوهٔ شایستگان است.
Remaining in seclusion (when it is required to safeguard faith) is the habit of the righteous.
وتَرْكَ شُـرْبِ الخَمْرِ تَحصيناً لِلْعَقْلِ.
و ترکِ شراب‌نوشیدن را برای پاسداریِ خِرَد [واجب کردیم].
Abandoning the drinking of wine is [commanded as] a protection for the mind.
خَـمْسَةٌ يَنْبَغي أنْ يُهانُوا: اَلدَّاخِلُ بَيْنَ اثْنَيْنِ، لَمْ يُدْخِلاهُ في أمْرِهما، وَالمُتَأمِّرُ على صاحِبِ البَيْتِ في بَيْتِهِ، والمُتَقَدِّمُ على مائِدَة لَمْ يُدْعَ إلَيها، وَالمُقبلُ بِحَديثِهِ على غَيرِ مُسْتَمِع، والجالِسُ فِي المَجالِسِ الَّتي لايَسْتَحِقُّها.
پنج تن را سزاوار است خوار شمارند: آن که میانِ دو تن درآید بی‌آن که او را در کارشان راه داده باشند، و آن که در خانهٔ صاحبِ خانه امیری کند، و آن که بر سفره‌ای که بدو نخوانده‌اند پیشی گیرد، و آن که با سخنش به سوی غیرِ شنونده رو کند، و آن که در مجلس‌هایی نشیند که سزاوارش نیست.
Five [types of people] are worthy of being humiliated: The one who interferes between two people when they have not involved him in their affair, the one who issues commands to the owner of the house [while] in his house, the one who approaches a dining table when he has not been invited to do so, the one who continues talking when nobody is listening and the one who sits in the place where he has no right to sit.
خَمْسٌ يُسْتَقْبَحْنَ مِنْ خَمْس: كَثْرَةُ الفُجورِ مِنَ العُلَماءِ، والحِرْصُ في الحُكَماءِ، والبُخلُ فيِ الأغْنياءِ، والقِحَةُ في النِّساءِ ومِنَ المَشايِخِ الزِّنا.
پنج چیز است که از پنج تن زشت شمارند: فزون‌فجوری از عالمان، و آز در فرزانگان، و بخل در توانگران، و بی‌حیایی در زنان، و زنا از پیران.
Five qualities are detested from five [people]: Excessive licentiousness from scholars, greed from sages, stinginess from the wealthy, shamelessness from women and from the elders, adultery.
إنَّ فيِ الخُمُولِ لَراحَةً.
در گمنامی آسایشی است.
Verily in anonymity [and lack of fame and prominence] there is peace of mind.
الخَوْفُ سِجْنُ النَّفْسِ عَنِ الذُّنُوبِ، ورادِعُها عَنِ المَعاصي.
ترس زندانِ نفس از گناهان است و بازدارنده‌اش از نافرمانی‌ها.
Fear [of Allah] is the imprisonment of the self from sins and its impediment from vices.
الخَوْفُ مِنَ اللّهِ في الدُّنيا، يُؤْمِنُ الخَوْفَ فِي الآخِرَةِ مِنْهُ.
ترس از خدا در دنیا، از ترسِ او در آخرت ایمنی دهد.
Fear of Allah in this world makes one safe from fear of Him in the Hereafter.
إرْهَبْ تُحذَرْ.
بترس تا از تو بترسند.
Fear [Allah] and you will be feared by the people.[^1]
إرْهَبْ تُحْذَر، ولا تَهْزِلْ فَتُحْتَقَرْ.
بترس تا از تو بترسند و شوخی مکن تا خوار شوی.
Fear [Allah] and you will be feared; and do not act jokingly such that you are belittled.
أخْوَفُكُمْ أعْرَفُكُمْ.
ترسان‌ترینِ شما شناساترینِ شماست.
The most fearful [of Allah] among you are the ones who know [Him] the most.
اَلخَوْفُ أمانٌ.
ترس ایمنی است.
Fear [of Allah] is security.
اَلخَشْيَةُ مِنْ عَذابِ اللّهِ شِيمَةُ المُتَّقينَ.
ترس از عذابِ خدا خویِ پرهیزگاران است.
Fear of the punishment of Allah is a quality of the God-wary.
اَلخَوْفُ جِلْبابُ العارِفينَ.
ترس جامهٔ عارفان است.
Fear [of Allah] is the gown of the Gnostics.
اَلوَجَلُ شِعارُ المُؤْمِنينَ.
بیم شعارِ مؤمنان است.
Fear [of Allah] is the distinguishing feature of the believers.
إذا خِفْتَ الخالِقَ فَرَرْتَ إلَيهِ.
چون از آفریننده بترسی، به سوی او گریزی.
When you fear the Creator, you flee towards Him.
ثَمَرَةُ الخَوْفِ الأمْنُ.
میوهٔ ترس ایمنی است.
The fruit of fear is security.
خَفْ رَبَّكَ، وارْجُ رَحْمَتَهُ، يُؤْمِنْكَ مِمَّا تَخافُ وَيُنِلْكَ ما رَجَوْتَ.
از پروردگارت بترس و رحمتش را امید دار تا تو را از آنچه می‌ترسی ایمنی دهد و به آنچه امید داری رساند.
Fear your Lord and seek His mercy, He will save you from that which you fear [in this world] and will bestow [upon you] what you hope for.
خَفْ تَأمَنْ ولا تَأمَنْ فَتَخَفْ.
بترس تا ایمنی و ایمن مشو تا بترسی.
Fear [Allah] and you will be safe, and do not [wait to] be safe so that you may fear [Him].
