كَمْ ذي عِزَّة رَدَّتْهُ الدُّنيا ذَليلاً.
چه بسیار صاحبِ عزتی که دنیا خوارش بازگرداند!
How many a person who possesses high standing has this world returned to humility!
كَفى مُخْبِراً عَمّا بَقِيَ مِنَ الدُّنيا ما مَضى مِنْها.
آنچه از دنیا گذشت، برای خبردادن از آنچه مانده کافی است.
That which has passed from this world suffices as an informer of what remains of this world.
كَثْرَةُ الدُّنيا قِلَّةٌ، وَعِزُّها ذِلَّةٌ، وزَخارِفُها مُضِلَّةٌ، ومَواهِبُها فِتْنَةٌ.
بسیارِ دنیا اندک و عزتش خواری و زینت‌هایش گمراه‌کننده و بخشش‌هایش فتنه است.
The abundance of this world is paucity, its grandeur is humiliation, its embellishments are misguiding and its gifts are a trial.
كُنْ فِي الدُّنيا بِبَدَنِكَ، وَفِي الآخِرَةِ بِقَلْبِكَ وعَمَلِكَ.
در دنیا به تنت باش و در آخرت به دلت و عملت.
Be in this world with your body and in the Hereafter with your heart and your actions.
كُنْ آنَسَ ما تَكُونُ بِالدُّنيا أحْذَرَ ما تَكُونُ مِنْها.
آن گاه که اُنس‌ترینی به دنیا، پرهیزکارترینی از آن باش.
Be most cautious of this world when you are most at ease with it.
كُونُوا عَنِ الدُّنيا نُزّاهاً، وإلى الآخِرَةِ وُلاّهاً.
از دنیا پاک‌دست باشید و به سوی آخرت روکننده.
Become uninterested in this world and be infatuated with the Hereafter.
كُونُوا مِمَّنْ عَرَفَ فَناءَ الدُّنيا فَزَهِدَ فيها وعَلِمَ بَقاءَ الآخِرَةِ فَعَمِلَ لَها.
از آن کسانی باشید که فنای دنیا را شناختند و در آن بی‌رغبتی کردند و بقای آخرت را دانستند و برای آن عمل کردند.
Be among those who recognize the transience of this world so they renounce it and know about the eternity of the Hereafter so they work for it.
كُونُوا قَوْماً عَلِمُوا أنَّ الدُّنيا لَيْسَتْ بِدارِهِمْ فاسْتَبْدَلُوا.
قومی باشید که دانستند دنیا خانه‌شان نیست، پس بدل گرفتند.
Be a community that understands that this world is not their [permanent] abode so they exchange it [for the Hereafter].
كُونُوا مِنْ أبْناءِ الآخِرَةِ، وَلا تَكُونُوا مِنْ أبْناءِ الدُّنْيا فَإنَّ كُلَّ وَلَد سَيَلْحَقُ بِأُمِّهِ يَوْمَ القيمَةِ.
از فرزندانِ آخرت باشید و از فرزندانِ دنیا مباشید؛ چرا که هر فرزندی در روز قیامت به مادرش پیوندد.
Be from the children of the Hereafter and do not be from the children of this world, for every child will cling to his mother on the Day of Resurrection.
كُلَّما إزدادَ المَرْءُ بِالدُّنيا شُغْلاً وزادَ بِها وَلَهاً أَوْرَدَتْهُ المَسالِكَ وَأَوْقَعَتْهُ فِي المَهالِكِ.
هر چه مرد به دنیا مشغول‌تر و شیفته‌تر شود، او را در مسیرها [ی هلاکت] درآوَرَد و در مهلک‌هاش افکند.
Whenever a person becomes more preoccupied and infatuated with this world, it makes him enter paths [of danger] and fall into places of destruction.
كُلَّما لا يَنْفَعُ يَضُرُّ، والدُّنيا مَعَ حَلاوَتِها تَمُرُّ، والفَقْرُ مَعَ الغِنى بِاللّهِ لايَضُرُّ.
هر چه سود ندهد زیان رساند و دنیا با شیرینی‌اش بگذرد و فقر همراه با بی‌نیازی به خدا زیان نرساند.
Whatever does not benefit, harms, and this world with its sweetness, becomes bitter whereas poverty with [seeking] sufficiency through Allah, never harms.
كُلَّما فاتَكَ مِنَ الدُّنيا شَيْءٌ فَهُوَ غَنيمَةٌ.
هر چه از دنیا از تو فوت شود، غنیمت است.
Every time something of this world slips away from you, it is an advantage [and a blessing].
كَما أنَّ الشَّمسَ واللَّيلَ لا يَجْتَمِعانِ كَذلِكَ حُبُّ اللّهِ وحُبُّ الدُّنيا لايَجْتَمِعانِ.
چنان که آفتاب و شب گرد هم نیایند، دوستیِ خدا و دوستیِ دنیا نیز گرد هم نیایند.
Just as the sun and the night do not come together, similarly love for Allah and love for this world do not come together.
كَذِبَ مَنِ ادَّعَى اليَقينَ بِالباقي وهُوَ مُواصِلٌ لِلفاني.
دروغ گفت آن که به ماندگار یقین ادعا کند و با فانی پیوسته باشد.
He who claims [to have] certitude in the eternal while he is still attached to the transient, has lied.
لِكُلِّ كَثْرَة قِلَّةٌ.
هر بسیار را اندکی است.
For every abundance [in this world] there is paucity.
لِكُلِّ شَيء مِنَ الدُّنيا انْقِضاءٌ وفَناءٌ.
هر چیزی از دنیا را پایانی و فنایی است.
For everything in this world there is expiry and annihilation.
لِلْمُسْتَحْلي لَذَّةَ الدُّنيا غُصَّةٌ.
آن که لذتِ دنیا را شیرین شمارد را گلوگیری است.
For the one who finds delight in the pleasures of this world there is distress [and regret in the Hereafter].
لَقَدْ كاشَفَتْكُمُ الدُّنيا الغِطاءَ، وآذَنَتْكُمْ على سَواء.
دنیا پرده را برایتان برگشوده و به شما برابری خبر داده است.
Indeed, this world has unveiled the cloak [of its disloyalty] and notified you all equally.
لَدُنْياكُمْ عِنْدي أهْوَنُ مِنْ عُراقِ خِنْزير على يدِ مَجذُوم.
دنیای شما نزد من خوارتر است از استخوانِ خوک در دستِ جذامی.
Verily this world of yours is more lowly in my view than the [dry] bone of a pig in the hand of a leper.
