مَنِ اسْتَقَلَّ مِنَ الدُّنيا اِسْتَكْثَرَ مِمّا يُؤْمِنُهُ.
هر که از دنیا کم گیرد، از آنچه ایمنش دارد بسیار گرفته است.
One who seeks less of this world gains more of that which keeps him secure [in the Hereafter].
مَنِ اسْتَكْثَرَ مِنَ الدُّنيا اِسْتَكْثَرَ مِمّا يُوْبِقُهُ.
هر که از دنیا بسیار گیرد، از آنچه هلاکش کند بسیار گرفته است.
One who seeks more of this world gains more of that which will ruin him.
مَنْ عَمَرَ دُنياهُ خَرَّبَ مَ آلَهُ.
هر که دنیایش را آباد کند، سرانجامش را ویران کرده است.
One who builds his world destroys his place of return [in the Hereafter].
مَنِ اغْتَرَّ بِالدُّنيا اِغْتَرَّ بِالمُنى.
هر که به دنیا فریفته شود، به آرزوها فریفته شده است.
One who is deceived by this world is deceived by [his] aspirations.
مَنْ رَضِـيَ بِالدُّنيا فاتَتْهُ الآخِرَةُ.
هر که به دنیا خشنود شود، آخرتش فوت شود.
One who is pleased with this world is eluded by the Hereafter.
مَنْ حَرَصَ عَلَى الدُّنيا هَلَكَ.
هر که بر دنیا حریص شود، هلاک شود.
One who is greedy for this world is destroyed.
مَنْ كانَ بِيَسيرِ الدُّنيا لا يَقْنَعُ لَمْ يُغْنِهِ مِنْ كَثيرِها ما يَجْمَعُ.
هر که به اندکِ دنیا قانع نباشد، بسیارِ آنچه گرد آوَرَد بی‌نیازش نکند.
One who is not content with the little [he has] of this world will not be satisfied with the much that he accumulates from it.
مَنْ أغْبَنُ مِمَّنْ باعَ البَقاءَ بِالفَناءِ؟!
زیان‌بارتر از آن که بقا را به فنا فروشد کیست؟!
Who is more at a disadvantage than the one who sells the eternal [Hereafter] for the transient [world]?
مَنْ أخْسَرُ مِمَّنْ تَعَوَّضَ عَنِ الآخِرَةِ بِالدُّنيا؟!
خسران‌بارتر از آن که از آخرت به دنیا بدل گیرد کیست؟!
Who is more at a loss than the one who exchanges the Hereafter for this world?
مَنْ طَلَبَ مِنَ الدُّنيا ما يُرْضيهِ كَثُرَ تَجَنّيهِ وطالَ تَعَدّيهِ.
هر که از دنیا آنچه خشنودش کند خواهد، بهانه‌جویی‌اش فزون و تجاوزش دراز شود.
One who seeks from this world that which pleases him, his crime (and sinfulness) increases and his transgression prolongs.
مَنْ وَثِقَ بِغُرورِ الدُّنيا أمِنَ مَخُوفَهُ.
هر که به فریبِ دنیا اعتماد کند، از بیمناکش ایمن ماند [یا به هلاکت افتد].
One who relies on the deceptions of this world considers himself safe from its perils.
مَنْ قَعَدَ عَنْ طَلَبِ الدُّنيا قامَتْ إلَيهِ.
هر که از طلبِ دنیا بنشیند، به سویش برخیزد.
Whoever keeps back from seeking this world, it rises towards him.
مَنْ أسْرَفَ في طَلَبِ الدُّنيا ماتَ فَقيراً.
هر که در طلبِ دنیا اسراف کند، تهیدست میرد.
One who exceeds the limits in seeking this world dies a pauper.
مَنْ عَرَفَ عَنِ الدُّنيا أتَتْهُ صاغِرَةً.
هر که از دنیا شناخت یابد، خوار و ذلیل به سویش آید.
Whoever turns away from this world, it comes to him belittled.
مَنْ لَهِجَ قَلْبُهُ بِحُبِّ الدُّنيا إلْتاطَ مِنها بِثَلاث: هَمّ لايُغْنيهِ (لايُغِبُّهُ)، وَحِرص لا يَتْرُكُهُ، وأمَل لا يُدْرِكُهُ.
هر که دلش به دوستیِ دنیا شیفته شود، به سه چیز از آن چسبد: اندوهی که رهایش نکند [یا غمی که از او نرود] و حریصی که وانهدش و آرزویی که نرسدش.
One whose heart is attached to the love of this world catches three things from it: worry that never leaves him, greed that never abandons him and hopes that are never realized by him.
مَنْ راقَهُ زِبْرِجُ الدُّنيا أعْقَبَ ناظِرَيْهِ كَمَها.
هر که زیورِ دنیا خوشش آید، برای چشمانش کوری به جا گذارد.
Whoever is attracted by the dazzle of this world, it blinds both his eyes.
مَنْ رَغِبَ في زَخارِفِ الدُّنيا فاتَهُ البَقاءُ المَطْلُوبُ.
هر که به زینت‌های دنیا رغبت کند، بقای خواسته‌ش فوت شود.
One who desires the adornments of this world is eluded by the sought after eternal bliss [of the Hereafter].
مَنْ غَلَبَتِ الدُّنيا عَلَيْهِ عَمِيَ عَمّا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ.
هر که دنیا بر او چیره شود، از آنچه پیش رویش است کور شود.
One who has been overcome by this world is blind to that which is in front of him.
مَنْ عَمَرَ دُنياهُ أفْسَدَ دينَهُ وأخْرَبَ أُخْراهُ.
هر که دنیایش را آباد کند، دینش را تباه و آخرتش را ویران کرده است.
One who builds his world corrupts his religion and ruins his Hereafter.
