اَلشَكُ يُفْسِدُ اليَقينَ ويُبْطِلُ الدِّينَ.

شک یقین را فاسد کند و دین را باطل سازد.

Doubt corrupts certitude and nullifies faith.

إيّاكَ والشَّكَّ، فَإنَّهُ يُفْسِدُ الدِّينَ، ويُبْطِلُ اليَقينَ.

از شک بپرهیز؛ چرا که دین را فاسد کند و یقین را باطل سازد.

Be wary of doubt, for verily it corrupts religion and nullifies certitude.

أهْلَكُ شَيْء اَلشَّكُّ والاِرْتيابُ، وأمْلَكُ شَيْء الوَرَعُ وَالاِجْتِنابُ.

هلاک‌کننده‌ترینِ چیز شک و تردید است و فرمانروای‌ترینِ چیز پرهیزکاری و اجتناب.

The most destructive thing is doubt and uncertainty, and the most constructive thing is piety and keeping aloof from sin.

اَلشَّكُّ اِرْتيابٌ.

شک تردید است.

Doubt is misgiving.

شک کفر است.

Doubt [in the existence of God] is disbelief.

اَلشَّكُّ ثَمَرَةُ الجَهْلِ.

شک میوهٔ نادانی است.

Doubt is the fruit of ignorance.

اَلاِرْتيابُ يُوجِبُ الشِّرْكَ.

تردید شرک آرَد.

Doubt leads to polytheism.

اَلشَّكُّ يُطْفِيُ نُورَ القَلْبِ.

شک نورِ دل را خاموش کند.

Doubt puts out the light of the heart.

إنَّما سُمِّيَتْ الشُّبْهَةُ شُبْهَةً لأنَّها تُشْبِهُ الْحَقَّ، فَأمّا أوْلِياءُاللّهِ فَضِيائُهُمْ فيها اليَقينُ، ودَليلُهُمْ سَمْتُ الهُدى، وأمّا أعْداءُ اللّهِ فَدَعاؤُهُمْ(فَدَعاهُمْ) إلَيْهَا الضَّلالُ،وَ دَليلُهُمْ العَمى.

شبهه را از آن رو شبهه خوانده‌اند که به حق شبیه است؛ اما دوستانِ خدا روشنایی‌شان در آن یقین است و راهنمایشان راهِ هدایت، و اما دشمنانِ خدا خواننده‌شان [یا خواندشان] به سوی آن گمراهی است و راهنمایشان کوری.

Indeed doubt was only named ‘shubha’ because it resembles the truth. As for the close friends of Allah, their illumination in it is [their] certitude and the direction of the right path is [itself] their guide; while the enemies of Allah are called towards it (doubt) by their misguidance and their guide is blindness.

آفَةُ اليَقينِ اَلشَّكُّ.

آفتِ یقین شک است.

The bane of certitude is doubt.

بِدَوامِ الشَّكِّ يَحْدُثُ الشِّرْكُ.

به پایداریِ شک شرک پدید آید.

By continued doubt [in God], polytheism comes about.

ثَمَرَةُ الشَّكِّ الحَيْرَةُ.

میوهٔ شک سرگردانی است.

The fruit of doubt is perplexity.

رُبَّما أدْرَكَ الظَّنُّ بِالصَّوابِ.

چه بسا گمان به درستی رسد.

It is possible that conjecture may [turn out to] be correct.

سَبَبُ الحَيْرَةِ الشَّكُّ.

سببِ سرگردانی شک است.

The cause of perplexity is doubt.

عَجِبْتُ لِمَنْ يَشُكُّ في قُدْرَةِ اللّهِ وهُوَ يَرى خَلْقَهُ.

در شگفتم از آن که در قدرتِ خدا شک کند و آفرینشش را بیند.

I am amazed at the one who doubts in the power of Allah while he sees His creation!

فِعْلُ الرِّيْبَةِ عارٌ، والوُلُوعُ بِالغيْبَةِ نارٌ.

عملِ تردیدآور ننگ است و شیفتگی به غیبت آتش است.

Acting suspicious[^1] is a shame and having an eager desire to backbite is [a cause of entering] hellfire.

كُلُّ ما خَلاَ اليَقينِ ظَنٌّ وشُكُوكٌ.

هر چه جز یقین است، گمان و شک است.

Everything that is devoid of certitude is [mere] conjecture and dubiety.

لِكُلِّ إنْسان أرَبٌ فَابْعُدُوا عَنِ الرَّيْبِ.

هر انسانی را حاجتی است؛ پس از تردید دور شوید.

Every person has a [desire and a] need, so distance yourselves from suspicion.
