إذا غَلَبَتْ عَلَيْكَ الشَّهْوَةُ فَاغْلِبْها بِالاِخْتِصارِ.

بِمِلْكِ الشَّهْوَةِ اَلتَّنَزُّهُ عَنْ كُلِّ عاب.
به فرمانرواییِ شهوت از هر عیبی پاکیزه‌مانی.
By controlling [one’s] lust, one becomes free of every flaw.
تَرْكُ الشَّهَواتِ أفْضَلُ عِبادَة وأجْمَلُ عادَة.
ترکِ شهوت‌ها برترینِ عبادت و زیباترینِ عادت است.
Abandoning lustful desires is the best worship and the most beautiful habit.
حَلاوَةُ الشَّهْوَةِ يُنَغِّصُها عارُ الفَضيحَةِ.
شیرینیِ شهوت را ننگِ رسوایی تلخ سازد.
The sweetness of lust is made bitter by the shame of ignominy [and humiliation].
رَدُّ الشَّهْوَةِ أقْضى لَها وقَضائُها أشَدُّ لَها.
ردّ شهوت کفایت‌کننده‌ترِ آن است و برآوردنش سخت‌تر بر او.
Repulsing lust is more effective in exterminating it while fulfilling it only makes it more intense.
رَدْعُ الشَّهْوَةِ والغَضَبِ جِهادُ النُّبَلاءِ.
بازداشتنِ شهوت و خشم جهادِ بزرگواران است.
Inhibiting lust and anger is the struggle of the noble ones.
زيادَةُ الشَّهْوَةِ تُزْري بِالمُرُوءَةِ.
فزون‌شدنِ شهوت مردانگی را خوار کند.
Increased lust degrades magnanimity.
سَبَبُ الشَّـرِّ غَلَبَةُ الشَّهْوَةِ
سببِ شر چیرگیِ شهوت است.
Being overpowered by lust is the cause of evil.
ضِرامُ الشَّهْوَةِ تَبْعَثُ عَلى تَلَفِ المُهْجَةِ.
شعلهٔ شهوت بر تلف‌شدنِ جان برانگیزد.
The flame of lust induces the impairment [and destruction] of the soul.
ضادُّوا الشَّهْوَةَ بِالقَمْعِ.
شهوت را به کوبیدن در هم شکنید.
Counter lust with restraint.
ضادُّوا الشَّهْوَةَ مُضادَّةَ الضِّدِ ضِدَّهُ، وحارِبُوها مُحارَبَةَ العَدُوِّ العَدُوَّ.
با شهوت چون ضدّی با ضدّش درافتید و با آن چون دشمنی با دشمنش بجنگید.
Oppose lust as a rival would oppose his rival and fight it as an enemy would fight his enemy.
طاعَةُ الشَّهْوَةِ تُفْسِدُ الدّينَ.
فرمان‌بردن از شهوت دین را فاسد کند.
Obeying one’s lust corrupts the faith.
طاعَةُ الشَّهْوَةِ هُلْكٌ، ومَعْصِيَتُها مُِلْكٌ.
فرمان‌بردن از شهوت هلاکت است و نافرمانی‌اش فرمانروایی.
Obedience to lust is destruction and disobedience to it is dominion.
ظَفِرَ بِجَنَّةِ المَأوى مَنْ أعْرَضَ عَنْ شَهَواتِ الدُّنيا.
به بهشتِ مأوی رسید آن که از شهوت‌های دنیا روی گرداند.
He who turns away from the lustful desires of this world attains the Garden of Repose [in the Hereafter].
عَبْدُ الشَّهْوَةِ أذَلُّ مِنْ عَبْدِ الرِّقِ.
بندهٔ شهوت خوارتر از بندهٔ غلامی است.
The slave to lust is lowlier than the slave of a human being.
عَبْدُ الشَّهْوَةِ أسيرٌ لايَنْفَكُّ أسْـرُهُ.
بندهٔ شهوت اسیری است که بندش گسسته نشود.
The slave to lust is a prisoner who cannot be freed from his imprisonment.
غَيْـرُ مُنْتَفِع بِالعِظاتِ قَلْبٌ مُتَعَلِّقٌ بِالشَّهَوابِ.
دلی که به شهوت‌ها آویخته باشد، از پندها بهره نگیرد.
The heart that is attached to lustful desires is unable to benefit from sincere exhortations.
غَلَبَةُ الشَّهْوَةِ أعْظَمُ هُلْك، ومُِلْكُها أشْرَفُ مُِلْك.
چیرگیِ شهوت [بر انسان] بزرگ‌ترینِ هلاکت است و فرمانروایی بر آن شریف‌ترینِ فرمانروایی.
Being overpowered by lust is the greatest destruction, and controlling it is the most honourable dominance.
غَلَبَةُ الشَّهْوَةِ تُبْطِلُ العِصْمَةَ وتُورِدُ الهُلْكَ.
چیرگیِ شهوت عصمت را باطل کند و به هلاکت کشد.
Being overpowered by lust nullifies preservation [of oneself from sin] and leads to destruction.
غالِبِ الشَّهْوَةَ قَبْلَ قُوَّةِ ضَراوَتِها فَإنَّها إنْ قَوِيَتْ مَلَكَتْكَ، وَاسْتَفادَتْكَ(اِستقادَتكَ) ولَمْ تَقْدِرْ عَلى مُقاوِمَتِها.
شهوت را پیش از نیرومندیِ چابکی‌اش بچیر؛ چرا که اگر نیرومند شود، بر تو فرمانروا شود و تو را به پیروی کشد [یا بکشاند] و بر مقاومتش توانا نباشی.
Overcome [your] lust before it ferocity becomes strong, for verily if it becomes strong it will possess you and use you, and you will not be able to stand up against it.
