مَغْلُوبُ الشَّهْوَةِ أذَلُّ مِن مَمْلُوكِ الرِّقِ.
مغلوبِ شهوت خوارتر از بردهٔ غلام است.
One who is overcome by lust is more abased than one who is enslaved.
مُدْمِنُ الشَّهَواتِ صَريعُ الآفاتِ، مُقارِنُ السَّيِّئاتِ، مُوقِنٌ بِالثَّباتِ.
پیوسته‌شهوت‌ران زمین‌خوردهٔ آفت‌هاست و همنشینِ بدی‌ها و یقین‌دارنده به ماندگاریِ [دنیا].
One who makes a habit of following [his] lustful desires is overwhelmed by afflictions, is associated with evils and has certainty about the permanence [of this world].
لاتُسْرِفْ في شَهْوَتِكَ وغَضَبِكَ فَيُزْرِيا بِكَ.
در شهوت و خشم اسراف مکن تا تو را خوار نسازند.
Do not exceed the limits in your lust and anger as they will degrade you.
لاعَقْلَ مَعَ شَهْوَة.
با شهوت خِرَدی نیست.
There is no reason with lust.
لايُفْسِدُ التَّقْوى إلاّ غَلَبَةُ الشَّهْوَةِ.
تقوا را جز چیرگیِ شهوت فاسد نسازد.
Nothing corrupts God-wariness but the dominance of lust.
لا فِتْنَةَ أعْظَمُ مِنَ الشَّهْوَةِ.
هیچ فتنه‌ای بزرگ‌تر از شهوت نیست.
There is no trial [and temptation] greater than lust.
ما أحْسَنَ بِالإنْسانِ أنْ لايَشْتَهِيَ ما لا يََنْبَغي.
چه نیکوست برای انسان که آنچه نشاید نخواهد.
How good it would be for people not to desire that which they ought not to [crave for].
مَنْ ماتَ عَلى فِراشِهِ وهُوَ على مَعْرِفَةِ حَقِّ رَبِّهِ ورَسُولِهِ وحَقِّ أهْلِ بَيْتِهِ ماتَ شَهيداً، ووَقَعَ أجْرُهُ عَلَى اللّهِ سُبْحانَهُ واسْتَوْجَبَ ثَوابَ ما نَوى مِنْ صالِحِ عَمَلِهِ، وقامَتْ نِيَّتُهُ مَقامَ إصْلاتِهِ سَيْفَهُ (بِسَيْفِهِ)، فَإنَّ لِكُلِّ شَْيء أجَلاً لايَعْدُوهُ.
هر که بر بسترش بمیرد در حالی که حقّ پروردگارش و پیامبرش و حقّ اهل‌بیتش را می‌شناسد، شهید مرده و پاداهش بر خدای سبحان است و سزاوارِ پاداشِ آنچه از عملِ شایسته نیّت کرده شده و نیّتش جانشینِ کشیدنِ شمشیرش [یا با شمشیرش] گردد؛ چرا که هر چیزی را اجالی است که از آن درنگذرد.
One who dies on his bed while he is cognizant of the rights of his Lord, His Prophet and the right of his household, has died a martyr and his reward rests with Allah, the Glorified. He is also eligible for the recompense of the good acts he intended to do, as his intention takes the place of drawing his sword [in battle]. Indeed, for everything there is a [limited] term that it cannot go beyond.
نَسْأَلُ اللّهَ سُبْحانَهُ مَنازِلَ الشُّهَداءِ، ومُعايَشَةَ السُّعَداءِ، ومُرافَقَةَ الأنْبِياءِ والأبْرارِ.
از خدای سبحان جایگاه‌های شهیدان و هم‌زیستیِ خوشبختان و هم‌رفیقیِ پیامبران و نیکان راخواهانیم.
We ask Allah, the Glorified, for [our inclusion in] the ranks of the martyrs, the fellowship of the felicitous and the company of the Prophets and the virtuous ones.
والشَّهادَةَ اِسْتِظْهاراً عَلَى المُجاحَداتِ.
و گواهی را پشت‌گرمی بر انکارها [قرار دادیم].
And testimony [has been prescribed] as a means of overcoming denials.
مَنْ شَهِدَ لَكَ بِالباطِلِ شَهِدَ عَلَيْكَ بِمِثْلِهِ.
هر که به باطل به سودت گواهی دهد، به مانندِ آن بر ضدّ تو گواهی دهد.
One who gives false testimony for you will give a similar testimony against you.
لاخَيْرَ في شَهادَةِ خائِن.
در گواهیِ خیانت‌کار خیری نیست.
There is no good in the testimony of the treacherous.
حُسْنُ الشُّهْرَةِ حِصْنُ القُدْرَةِ.
نیکوییِ آوازه دژِ توانایی است.
Good renown is a fortification of power.
حُبُّ النَّباهَةِ رَأْسُ كُلِّ بَلِيَّة.
دوست‌داشتنِ نامداری سرِ هر بلایی است.
Love of fame is the cornerstone of every affliction.
كَفى بِالشَّيْبِ نَذيراً.
پیری را به هشداردهنده بس است.
The grey hair of old age is enough of a warner.
كَفى بِالشَّيْبِ ناعِياً.
پیری را به ماتم‌خوان بس است.
The grey hair of old age is enough of an announcer [of impending death].
غَيِّـرُوا الشَّيْبَ، ولاتَشَبَّهُوا بِاليَهُودِ.
سپیدیِ مو را رنگ بدهید و به یهودیان همانند نشوید.
Change your grey hair [by dyeing it] and do not resemble the Jews.
إذَا ابْيَضَّ أسْوَدُكَ ماتَ أطْيَبُكَ.
چون سیاهی‌ات سپید شود، پاکیزه‌ترینِ [لذت‌های] تو مرده است.
When you’re black [hair] becomes white, your best [part of life] has passed away.
اَلشَّيْبُ آخِرُ مَواعيدِ الفَناءِ.
پیری آخرینِ وعده‌های فناست.
Grey hair [of old age] is the last of the promises of annihilation.
