اَلصَّلاةُ تَسْتَنْزِلُ الرَّحْمَةَ.
نماز رحمت را فرود آرد.
Prayer causes [divine] mercy to descend.
إذا قامَ أحَدُكُمْ إلَى الصَّلاةِ فَلْيُصَلِّ صَلاةَ مُوَدِّع.
چون یکی از شما به نماز ایستد، نمازِ وداع‌کننده بگزارد.
When one of you stands to perform prayer, then let him pray the prayer of one who is bidding farewell (i.e. he should assume that it is the last prayer he will perform in his lifetime).
والصَّلاةَ تَنْزيهاً عَنِ الكِبْرِ.
و نماز را برای پاکیزگی از کبر [قرار دادیم].
And prayer [was prescribed] as a purification from arrogance.
كَمْ مِنْ قائِم لَيْسَ لَهُ مِنْ قِيامِهِ إلاّ العَناءُ.
چه بسیارند برپادارنده‌ای که از قیامش جز رنج نباشد.
How many of those who stand [to perform prayer] have nothing in their prayer but [physical] effort.
لَوْ يَعْلَمُ المُصَلّي ما يَغْشاهُ مِنَ الرَّحْمَةِ لَما رَفَعَ رَأسَهُ مِنَ السُّجُودِ.
اگر نمازگزار بداند که چه رحمتی‌اش فراگیرد، هرگز سرش را از سجده بلند نکند.
If the one who offers prayer knew how much divine mercy is descending upon him, he would surely not raise his head from prostration.
ما أهَمَّني ذَنْبٌ أُمْهِلْتُ فيهِ حَتّى أُصَلِّـيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ.
گناهی که پس از مهلت در آن دو رکعت نماز گزارم، مرا غمگین نسازد.
I am not worried by a wrongdoing in which I am given time so that I can offer two units of prayer [and seek forgiveness].
الصَّمْتُ يُكْسِيكَ الوَقارَ، ويَكْفِيكَ مَؤُنَةَ الاِعتِذارِ.
خاموشی بر تو وقار می‌پوشاند و تو را از رنج عذرخواهی بی‌نیاز می‌کند.
Silence covers you with dignity and suffices as your provision for seeking pardon.
أُصْمُتْ تَسْلَمْ.
خاموش باش تا در امان بمانی.
Be silent and you will remain safe.
اِلْزَمِ الصَّمْتَ، يَسْتُرْ (يَسْتَنِرْ) فِكْرُكَ
خاموشی پیشه کن تا اندیشه‌ات در پرده ماند [یا روشن شود].
Espouse silence and your thoughts will remain hidden (or will become illuminated).
أُصْمُتْ دَهْرَكَ يَجِلَّ أمْرُك.
در همه عمر خاموش باش تا کارت بلند شود.
Remain silent in your lifetime and your affair will become lofty.
اِلْزَمِ الصَّمْتَ، فَأدْني نَفْعِهِ السَّلامَةُ.
خاموشی پیشه کن که کمترین سودش سلامت است.
Espouse silence, for the least of its benefits is safety.
اِلْزَمِ الصَّمْتَ، يَلْزَمْكَ النَّجاةُ والسَّلامَةُ، وَالْزَمِ الرِّضا يَلْزَمْكَ الغَناءُ وَالكَرامَةُ.
خاموشی پیشه کن تا سلامت و سلامتی همراهت شود، و خشنودی پیشه کن تا بی‌نیازی و بزرگواری همراهت شود.
Espouse silence and you will be accompanied by safety and security; espouse contentment and you will be accompanied by prosperity and honour.
اِلْزَمِ السُّكُوتَ، واصْبِرْ عَلى القَناعَةِ بِأيْسَرِ القُوتِ تَعِزَّ(تَغِزَّ) في دُنْياكَ وتَعِزَّ في أُخْريكَ.
خاموشی پیشه کن و بر قناعت به اندک خوراک شکیبا باش تا در دنیایت عزیز شوی و در آخرتت سربلند.
Espouse silence and be patient with contentment for the little provision [that you have], [and as a result] you will become great (or your will overcome) in your world and will become great in your Hereafter.
أحْسَنُ الصَّمْتِ ماكانَ عَنِ الزَّلَلِ.
بهترین خاموشی آن است که از لغزش باز دارد.
The best silence is that which prevents [one] from error.
أحْمَدُ مِنَ البَلاغَةِ الصَّمْتُ حينَ لايَنْبَغِي الكَلامُ.
خاموشی در آنجا که سخن نشاید، ستوده‌تر از بلاغت است.
Remaining silent when speech is inappropriate is more praiseworthy than eloquence.
اَلصَّمْتُ وَقارٌ، اَلَهَذْرُ عارٌ.
خاموشی وقار است و یاوه‌گویی ننگ.
Silence is dignity and idle talk is disgrace.
اَلصَّمْتُ مَنْجاةٌ.
خاموشی مایه نجات است.
Silence is a means of deliverance.
اَلصَّمْتُ رَوْضَةُ الفِكْرِ.
خاموشی بوستان اندیشه است.
Silence is the garden of contemplation.
اَلصَّمْتُ آيَةُ الحِلْمِ.
خاموشی نشانه بردباری است.
Silence is the sign of forbearance [and judiciousness].
