بِحُسْنِ العِشْرَةِ تَأْنَسُ الرِّفاقُ.
به نیکیِ زندگیِ مشترک یاران انس گیرند.
Through good social interaction friendships become intimate.
بِحُسْنِ العِشْـرَةِ تَدُومُ الوُصْلَةُ (الصُحْبَةُ).
به نیکیِ زندگیِ مشترک پیوند (یا همراهی) پایدار ماند.
By good social interaction ties (or companionship) last.
بِئسَ العَشيرُ الحَقُودُ.
چه بد یاری کینه‌ور است!
How evil an associate the spiteful person is!
حُسْنُ العِشْرَةِ يَسْتَديمُ المَوَدَّةَ.
نیکیِ زندگیِ مشترک دوستی را پایدار سازد.
Good social interaction causes affection to endure.
خالِقُوا النّاسَ بِأخْلاقِهِمْ وزايِلُوهُمْ فِي الأعْمالِ.
با مردم به آداب‌شان رفتار کنید ولی در کارها از ایشان جدا باشید.
Interact with people through their [norms of] etiquette but separate yourself from them in [your] actions.
خالِطُوا النّاسَ مُخالَطَةً، إنْ مِتُّمْ بَكَوْا عَلَيْكُمْ وإنْ غِبْتُمْ حَنُّوا إلَيْكُمْ.
چنین با مردم رفتار کنید که چون بمیرید بر شما بگریند و چون غیب کنید به یادِ شما اندوهگین شوید.
Interact with people in such a way that when you die, they weep over you and when you are absent, they yearn for your company.
خالِطُوا النّاسَ بِألْسِنَتِكُمْ وأجْسادِكُمْ، وزايِلُوهُمْ بِقُلُوبِكُمْ وَأعْمالِكُمْ.
با زبان و تن خود با مردم آمیخته باشید، ولی با دل و کار از ایشان جدا.
Interact with people through your tongues and your bodies, but part from them with your hearts and your actions.
رُبَّ عَشير غَيْرُ حَبيب.
بسیار یاری هست که یار نیست.
Many an associate is not a close friend.
عِنْدَ الاِمْتِحانِ يُكْرَمُ الرَّجُلِ أَوْيُهانُ.
در هنگامِ آزمایش آدمی گرامی یا خوار شود.
It is in times of trial that a man is [either] honoured or disgraced.
عاشِرْ أهْلَ الفَضْلِ تَسْعَدْ وتَنْبُلْ.
با اهلِ فضیلت همراه شو تا خوشبخت و بزرگوار شوی.
Associate with the people of excellence and you will gain felicity and nobility.
عِمارَةُ القُلُوبِ في مُعاشَرَةِ ذَوِى العُقُولِ.
آبادانیِ دل‌ها در همنشینی با خردمندان است.
The development of the hearts is in socializing with people of intellect.
قَطيعَةُ الجاهِلِ تَعْدِلُ صِلَةَ العاقِلِ.
قطعِ رابطه با نادان به هم‌بستگی با خردمند رسد.
Cutting off [ties with] the ignorant is equivalent to establishing ties with the intelligent.
قَطيعَةُ العاقِلِ لَكَ بَعْدَ نَفاذِ الحيلَةِ فيكَ.
خردمند پس از آنکه همهٔ چاره‌ها بر تو نافذ شد از تو کنار رود.
The intelligent person [only] cuts off ties with you after failing to find any other way out.
قارِبِ النّاسَ في أخْلاقِهِمْ تَأمَنْ غَوائِلَهُمْ.
با مردم در اخلاق نزدیک شو تا از بدی‌شان در امانی.
Get closer to the people in their morals and you will be safe from their malice [and evil].
كَثْرَةُ المَعارِفِ مِحْنَةٌ، وخُلْطَةُ النّاسِ فِتْنَةٌ.
بسیارِ آشنایی آزمایش است و آمیختن با مردم فتنه.
Having many acquaintances is a tribulation, and socializing with the people is an ordeal.
مَنْ كَثُرَتْ خُلْطَتُهُ قَلَّتْ تَقِيَّتُهُ (ثِقَتُهُ).
هر که آمیختنش بیشتر شود، پرهیزگاری‌اش (یا امانتش) کمتر گردد.
One whose social interaction increases, his piety (or reliability) decreases.
مَنْ خالَطَ النّاسَ نالَهُ مَكْرُهُمْ.
هر که با مردم آمیخت، مکرِ ایشان برسد.
One who mingles with the people is affected by their devices.
مَنْ خالَطَ النّاسَ قَلَّ وَرَعُهُ.
هر که با مردم آمیخت، پرهیزگاری‌اش کمتر شود.
Whoever mingles with the people, his piety decreases?
مَنْ حَسُنَتْ عِشْرَتُهُ كَثُرَ إخْوانُهُ.
هر که زندگیِ مشترکش نیکو بود، برادرانش بسیار شوند.
One whose social interaction is good, his brother’s increase.
