مِنَ العُقُوقِ إضاعَةُ الحُقُوقِ.
از بی‌وفاگی (نقضِ حقوق) است از دست دادنِ حقوق.
Disregarding the rights [of your parents] is from [the acts of] filial impiety.
اَلعَقْلُ شَرَفٌ كَريمٌ لايَبْلى.
خرد شرافتی گران‌قدر است که کهنه نمی‌شود.
The intellect is an honourable nobility that does not wear away.
اَلعَقْلُ غَريزَةٌ، تَزِيدُ بِالعِلْمِ والتَّجارِبِ.
خرد نهادی است که با دانش و تجربه فزونی می‌یابد.
The intellect is an inborn quality that increases through knowledge and experience.
اَلعَقْلُ، والعِلْمُ، مَقْرُونانِ في قَرَن، لايَفْتَرِقانِ، ولايَتَبايَنانِ.
خرد و دانش در یک رشته به هم پیوسته‌اند؛ نه از هم جدا می‌شوند و نه با هم تفاوت دارند.
The intellect and knowledge are joined together in one linkage, they neither separate nor do they differ.
اَلعَقْلُ أغْنَى الغِنى، وغايَةُ الشَّرَفِ فِي الآخِرَةِ والدُّنيا.
خِرَد بزرگ‌ترین توانگری است و والاترین شرافت در دنیا و آخرت.
The intellect is the greatest of riches and the highest honour in [both] the Hereafter and this world.
اَلعَقْلُ أجْمَلُ زِينَة، والعِلْمُ أشْرَفُ مَزِيَّة.
خرد زیباترین زیور است و دانش شریف‌ترین برتری.
The intellect is the most beautiful adornment and knowledge is the most honourable merit.
اَلعَقْلُ أصْلُ العِلْمِ، وداعِيَةُ الفَهْمِ.
خرد ریشه دانش و فراخواننده فهم است.
The intellect is the root of knowledge and the herald of understanding.
اَلعَقْلُ مَنْفَعَةٌ، والعِلْمُ مَرْفَعةٌ، والصَّبْرُ مَدْفَعَةٌ.
خرد سودمندی است، دانش بلندی، و صبر سپری در برابر سختی‌ها.
Intelligence is an advantage, knowledge is an elevation and patience is a defence [and a means of repelling hardships].
اَلعَقْلُ خَلِيلُ المُؤْمِنِ، والعِلْمُ وَزيرُهُ، والصَّبْرُ أمِيرُ جُنُودِهِ، والعَمَلُ قَيِّمُهُ.
خرد دوستِ مؤمن است، دانش وزیر او، صبر فرمانده سپاهش و عمل سرپرستش.
The intellect is the close friend of a believer, knowledge is his vizier, patience is the commander of his army and action is his overseer.
اَلعَقْلُ صاحِبُ جَيْشِ الرَّحْمنِ، والهَوى قائِدُ جَيْشِ الشَّيْطانِ، وَالنَّفْسُ مُتَجاذِبَةٌ بَيْنَهُما، فَأيُّهُما غَلَبَ كانَتْ في حَيِّزِهِ.
خرد سردار سپاه خدای رحمان است و هوس فرمانده سپاه شیطان؛ و نفس میان این دو در کشاکش است، پس هر کدام چیره شود، نفس در حوزه اوست.
The intellect is the leader of the army of the Most Merciful and vain desire is the chief of the army of Satan, and the soul is pulled back and forth between them, so whichever of them is victorious, it (i.e. the soul) is in its domain.
اَلعَقْلُ والشَّهْوَةُ ضِدّانِ، ومُؤَيِّدُ العَقْلِ العِلْمُ، ومُزَيِّنُ الشَّهْوَةِ الهَوى، والنَّفْسُ مُتَنازِعَةٌ بَيْنَهُما، فَأيُّهُما قَهَرَ كانَتْ في جانِبِهِ.
خِرَد و شهوت دو ضدّ یکدیگرند؛ پشتیبان خِرَد دانش است و آراینده شهوت هوای نفس، و جان میان این دو کشیده می‌شود؛ پس بر هر کدام چیره شود، در جانب اوست.
Intellect and lust are opposites; the supporter of the intellect is knowledge and the adorner of lust is vain desire, and the soul is contended for between the two, so whichever is triumphant, it is on its side.
اَلعَقْلُ أنَّكَ تَقْتَصِدُ فَلاتُسْرِفْ، وَتَعِدُ فَلا تُخْلِفُ، وإذا غَضِبْتَ حَلُمْتَ.
خِرَد آن است که میانه‌روی کنی و اسراف نکنی، وعده دهی و خلاف نکنی، و چون خشم گیری بردباری کنی.
Intelligence is for you to be moderate and not indulge in extravagance, to promise and not to break your promise, and to be forbearing when you get angry.
اَلعَقلُ أنْ تَقُولَ ما تَعْرِفُ، وتَعْمَلَ بِما تَنْطِقُ بِهِ.
خِرَد آن است که آنچه می‌دانی بگویی و بدانچه به زبان آوری عمل کنی.
Intelligence is for you to speak [only] of what you know and to act upon what you say.
اَلعَقْلُ يَهْدي ويُنْجي، والجَهْلُ يُغْوي ويُرْدي.
خرد راه می‌نماید و می‌رهاند، و جهل گمراه می‌کند و هلاک می‌سازد.
The intellect guides and saves whereas ignorance misleads and destroys.
اَلعَقْلُ صَديقٌ مَحْمُودٌ.
خِرَد دوستی ستوده است.
The intellect is a praiseworthy friend.
اِسْتَرْشِدِ العَقْلَ، وخالِفِ الهَوى تُنْجِحْ.
از خرد راهنمایی بخواه و با هوس مخالفت کن تا کامیاب شوی.
Seek right guidance from the intellect and oppose vain desire, [by this] you will gain success.
إعْقَلْ عَقْلَكَ، وامْلِكْ أمْرَكَ، وجاهِدْ نَفْسَكَ، واعْمَلْ للآخِرَةِ جَهْدَكَ.
خِرَدت را مهار کن و کارت را به دست گیر و با نفست بجنگ و برای آخرت بکوش.
Fetter your intellect, control your affair, struggle with your [lower] self, and exert your effort in working for the Hereafter.
أيْنَ العُقُولُ المُسْتَصْبِحَةُ (المُسْتَصْحَبَةُ) لِمَصابِيحِ الهُدى؟!
کجاست خِرَدهایی که از چراغ‌های هدایت روشن می‌شوند [یا با آن‌ها همراه‌اند]؟
Where are the intellects that light up (or that accompany) the lamps of guidance?
أفْضَلُ العَقْلِ الرَّشادُ.
برترینِ خِرَد، راه‌یافتگی است.
The best intellect is [that which leads one to] right guidance.
