حکمت ۶۶۴۱ — خردSaying 6641 — The Intellect

عِنْدَ الخِبْرَةِ (الحِيْرَة) تَنْكَشِفُ عُقُولُ الرِّجالِ.

در هنگام آزمایش [یا سرگشتگی] خِرَد مردم آشکار شود.

In times of trial (or perplexity) the [level of] intellects of the people are revealed.

حکمت ۶۶۴۲ — خردSaying 6642 — The Intellect

عِنْدَ بَديهَةِ المَقالِ تُخْتَبَرُ عُقُولُ الرِّجالِ.

در هنگام سخن بداهه، خِرَد مردم آزموده شود.

In times of impromptu speech, the intellects of people are tested.

حکمت ۶۶۴۳ — خردSaying 6643 — The Intellect

عِنْدَ غُرُورِ الأطْماعِ، والآمالِ، تَنْخَدِعُ عُقُولُ الجُهَّالِ وتُخْتَبَرُ اَلْبابُ الرِّجالِ.

چون طمع‌ها و آرزوها فریب دهند، خِرَد نادانان فریفته شود و خِرَدها آزموده شوند.

When covetousness and false hopes deceive, the minds of the ignorant are beguiled and the intellects of people are tested.

حکمت ۶۶۴۴ — خردSaying 6644 — The Intellect

عُنْوانُ العَقْلِ مُداراةُ النّاسِ.

نشانهٔ خِرَد، مدارا با مردم است.

The symbol of intellect is being affable with the people.

حکمت ۶۶۴۵ — خردSaying 6645 — The Intellect

عَقْلُ المَرْءِ نِظامُهُ، وأدَبُهُ قِوامُهُ، وصِدْقُهُ إمامُهُ، وشُكْرُهُ تَمامُهُ.

خِرَدِ مرد نظام او، ادبش قوام او، راستیش پیشوای او و سپاسش کمال اوست.

The intellect of a person is his order, his etiquette is his foundation, his honesty is his leader and his gratitude is his perfection.

حکمت ۶۶۴۶ — خردSaying 6646 — The Intellect

عُقُولُ الفُضَلاءِ في أطْرافِ أقْلامِها (مِهِمْ).

خِرَد دانشمندان در سرِ انگشتان [قلم‌های] ایشان است.

The intellects of the erudite scholars are in the points of their pens.

حکمت ۶۶۴۷ — خردSaying 6647 — The Intellect

غايَةُ المَرْءِ حُسْنُ عَقْلِهِ.

والاترین چیز انسان، نیکویی خِرَد اوست.

The highest distinction of a person is the excellence of his intellect.

حکمت ۶۶۴۸ — خردSaying 6648 — The Intellect

غايَةُ العَقْلِ اَلاِعْتِرافُ بِالجَهْلِ.

غایت خِرَد، اقرار به نادانی است.

The highest degree of intelligence is admitting to [one’s] ignorance.

حکمت ۶۶۴۹ — خردSaying 6649 — The Intellect

غَريزَةُ العَقْلِ تَحْدُو عَلَى اسْتِعْمالِ العَدْلِ.

غریزهٔ خِرَد، به کار بستن عدالت را برانگیزد.

The intrinsic nature of the intellect impels it to employ justice.

حکمت ۶۶۵۰ — خردSaying 6650 — The Intellect

غَريزَةُ العَقْلِ تَأبى ذَميمَ الفِعْلِ.

غریزهٔ خِرَد، کار زشت را تاب نیاوَرَد.

The intrinsic nature of the intellect rejects dispraised action.

حکمت ۶۶۵۱ — خردSaying 6651 — The Intellect

غَيْرُ مُنْتَفِع بِالحِكْمَةِ عَقْلٌ مَعْلُولٌ بالغَضَبِ والشَّهْوَةِ.

خِرَدِ آلوده به خشم و شهوت، از حکمت بهره نگیرد.

The mind that is sick with anger and lust does not benefit from wisdom.

حکمت ۶۶۵۲ — خردSaying 6652 — The Intellect

غِطاءُ العُيُوبِ العَقْلُ.

پوشش عیب‌ها خِرَد است.

The veil of flaws is the intellect.

حکمت ۶۶۵۳ — خردSaying 6653 — The Intellect

فَقْدُ العَقْلِ شَقاءٌ.

نبود خِرَد، بدبختی است.

Lack of intellect is wretchedness.

حکمت ۶۶۵۴ — خردSaying 6654 — The Intellect

فَسادُ العَقْلِ الاِغْتِرارُ بِالخُدَعِ.

تباهی خِرَد، فریب‌خوردن به نیرنگ‌هاست.

Corruption of the intellect is [in] being deluded by deceptions.

حکمت ۶۶۵۵ — خردSaying 6655 — The Intellect

فَضيلَةُ العَقْلِ الزَّهادَةُ.

فضیلت خِرَد، دل‌برکندن [از دنیا] است.

The excellence of the intellect is [in] indifference towards [the pleasures of] this world.

حکمت ۶۶۵۶ — خردSaying 6656 — The Intellect

قَدْ يَضِلُّ العَقْلُ الفَذُّ.

بسا خِرَدِ یگانه که گمراه شود.

At times [relying on] the intellect alone may lead [one] astray.

حکمت ۶۶۵۷ — خردSaying 6657 — The Intellect

كَمْ مِنْ ذَليل أعَزَّهُ عَقْلُهُ.

چه بسیار خواران که خِرَدشان عزیزشان گرداند.

How many a lowly person has been made venerable by his intellect.

حکمت ۶۶۵۸ — خردSaying 6658 — The Intellect

كَمْ مِنْ عَقْل أسير عِنْدَ هَوىً أمير.

چه بسیار خِرَدها که در بند هوسِ فرمانروا اسیرند.

Many a mind has been made subservient by a commanding desire.

حکمت ۶۶۵۹ — خردSaying 6659 — The Intellect

كَفى بِالعَقْلِ غِنىً.

خِرَد را به‌جای توانگری بس است.

Intelligence is sufficient as wealth.

حکمت ۶۶۶۰ — خردSaying 6660 — The Intellect

كَفى بِالمَرْءِ عَقْلاً أنْ يُجْمِلَ في مَطالِبِهِ.

خِرَدِ مرد را همین بس که در خواسته‌هایش میانه‌روی کند.

It is enough of intelligence for a person to be moderate in his pursuits.
