غايةُ الأملِ اَلأجَلُ.
غایت آرزو، اجل است.
The end of hope is death.
اَبْعَدُ شَىْء الأمَلُ.
دورترینِ چیزها آرزوست.
The farthest thing is hope.
أكْثَرُ النَّاسِ أمَلاً أقَلُّهُمْ لِلْمَوْتِ ذِكراً.
بیشترِ مردم در آرزو، کمترشان در یاد مرگ‌اند.
Those who have the most [false] hopes are the ones who remember death the least.
أطْوَلُ النَّاسِ أمَلاً أسْوَئُهُمْ عَمَلاً
درازآرزوترینِ مردم، بدکردارترینِ ایشان است.
Those who have the longest hopes are the ones whose deeds are the worst.
إنَّ اللّهَ سُبْحانَهُ لَيُبْغِضُ الطَّويلَ الأمَلِ، السَّيِّءَ العَملِ.
خدای سبحان درازآرزویِ بدکردار را دشمن می‌دارد.
Verily Allah, the Glorified, hates the one who has long hopes and performs evil actions.
إنَّ المَرْءَ يَشْرُفُ عَلى أمَلِهِ، فَيَقْطَعُهُ حُضُورُ أجَلِهِ، فَسُبْحانَ اللّهِ لا أمَلٌ يُدْرَكُ، ولا مُؤَمِّلٌ يُتْرَكُ.
آدمی بر آرزویش مشرف شود و حضور اجلش آن را بُرَد؛ پس منزه است خدا که نه آرزویی به دست آید و نه آرزومندی واگذارده شود!
Indeed man reaches near [the realization of] his hopes, when the [sudden] approach of his death cuts them short, then - Glory be to Allah! - Neither is the hope realized nor is the hoper spared.
إيّاكَ وطُولَ الأمَلِ، فَكَمْ مِنْ مَغْرُور افتَتَنَ بِطُولِ أمَلَهِ، وأفْسََدَ عََمَلَهُ، وقَطَعَ أجَلَهُ، فَلا أمَلَهُ أدْرَكَ ولا ما فاتَهُ اسْتَدرَكَ.
از درازی آرزو بپرهیز؛ چه بسیار فریب‌خورده‌ای که به درازی آرزویش فریفته شد و عملش را تباه کرد و اجلش رسید؛ پس نه به آرزویش رسید و نه آنچه فوت شده بود باز یافت.
Be cautious not to lengthen [your] hope, for many a deceived person has been enticed by his long hope and corrupted his deeds and cut [short] his lifetime, then neither was his hope realized nor was that which he lost regained.
أيْنَ تَخْتَدِعُكُمْ كَواذِبُ الآمالِ؟!
درنگاهِ کاذبِ آرزوها شما را به کجا می‌فریبد؟!
Where will the falsehoods of hopes mislead you to?!
أينَ يَغُرُّكُمْ سَرابُ الآمالِ؟!
سرابِ آرزوها شما را در کجا می‌فریبد؟!
Where will the mirage of hopes misguide you to?!
أكْذَبُ شيْء اَلأمَلُ.
دروغ‌ترینِ چیزها آرزوست.
The most delusive thing is hope.
إنَّ أخْسَرَ النَّاسِ صَفْقَةً، وأخْيَبَهُمْ سَعياً، رَجلٌ أخْلَقَ بَدَنَهُ في طَلَبِ آمالِهِ، ولَم تُساعِدْهُ المَقاديرُ على إرادَتِهِ، فَخَرَجَ مِنَ الدُّنيا بِحَسَراتِهِ، وقَدِمَ عَلَى الآخِرَةِ بِتَبِعاتِهِ.
زیانکارترینِ مردم در معامله و نومیدترینشان در تلاش مردی است که تنش را در طلب آرزوهایش فرسوده و تقدیرها بر اراده‌اش یاری نکرده؛ پس با حسرت‌هایش از دنیا رفته و با بار گناهانش به آخرت رسیده است.
The one who is worst in bargaining and most unsuccessful in striving is he who exerts himself in seeking the realization of his hopes while fate does not help him in his aims, and [as a result] he leaves this world in a sorrowful state and proceeds to the next world where he faces the consequences.
اَلأمَلُ خَوَّانٌ.
آرزو خیانت‌کار است.
Hope is treacherous.
اَلأمَلُ يَغُرُّ، اَلعَيْشُ يَمُرُّ.
آرزو فریبد و زندگی بگذرد.
Hope deceives and lifetime passes.
اَلأمَلُ يَخْدَعُ، اَلبَغيُ يَصرَعُ.
آرزو فریبد و سرکشی به خاک افکند.
Hope misleads and transgression strikes down.
اَلمُغْتَـرُّ بِالآمالِ مَخْدُوعٌ.
فریفتهٔ آرزوها مغرور است.
One who is deceived by hopes is misled.
الأمانيُّ بَضائِعُ النَّوْكى.
آرزوها سرمایه‌های ابلهان است.
Aspirations are the wares of the unintelligent.
اَلآمالُ غَرُورُ الحَمْقى.
آرزوها فریبِ احمقان است.
Hopes are the delusions of the foolish.
اَلآمالُ تُدنِي الآجالَ.
آرزوها اجل‌ها را نزدیک کنند.
Hopes bring death closer.
مَنْ كَثُرَ مُناهُ قَلَّ رِضاهُ.
هر که آرزویش فزون شود، خشنودی‌اش کم شود.
One whose aspirations increase, his satisfaction decreases.
