اَلعالِمُ والمُتَعَلِّمُ شَريكانِ فِي الأجْرِ، وَلاخَيْـرَ فيما بَيْنَ ذلِكَ.
دانشمند و دانشجو شریک در پاداش‌اند؛ و نیکی در چیزی میانِ این دو نیست.
The scholar and the student are partners in reward; there no good in anything between this.[^1]

اَلعُلَماءُ أطْهَرُ النّاسِ أخْلاقاً، وأقَلُّهُمْ فِي المَطامِعِ أعْراقاً.
دانشمندان پاک‌ترینِ مردم در اخلاق و کم‌ریشه‌ترینِ ایشان در آرزوهای زشت‌اند.
Scholars are the purest of people in character and the least rooted in [vain] desires.
اَلعالِمُ حَيٌّ بَيْـنَ المَوْتى.
دانشمند زنده‌ای میانِ مردگان است.
The scholar is a living [person] among the dead.
إيّاكَ أنْ تَسْتَخِفَّ بِالعُلَماءِ، فَإنَّ ذلِكَ يُزْري بِكَ، ويُسِـيءُ الظَّنَّ بِكَ، والمَخِيلَةَ فيكَ.
مبادا دانشمندان را کوچک شماری، که همانا تو را خوار کند، به تو گمانِ بد کند و به تو خودبینی بنشاند.
Be careful not to disparage scholars, for indeed this will degrade you and make others think ill of you and expect evil from you.
أعْلَمُكُمْ أخْوَفُكُمْ.
دانشمندترینِ شما ترسان‌ترینِ شماست.
The most learned among you are the most fearful of you.
أوْلَى النّاسِ بِالأنْبِياءِ، أعْلَمُهُمْ بِما جاؤُا بِهِ.
سزاوارترِ مردم به [هدایتِ] پیامبران، دانشمندترینِ ایشان به آنچه آورده‌اند.
The people who are most deserving of the [guidance of the] Prophets are those who have the most knowledge about what they came with.
أعْلَمُ النّاسِ اَلمُسْتَهْتَرُ بِالعِلْمِ.
دانشمندترینِ مردم آن است که بیش از همه به دانش شیفته است.
The most learned person is the one who is most infatuated with knowledge.
أعْلَمُ النّاسِ بِاللّهِ سُبْحانَهُ أخْوَفُهُمْ مِنْهُ.
دانشمندترینِ مردم به خداوند سبحان، ترسان‌ترینِ ایشان از اوست.
The most learned of people about Allah, the Glorified, are the most fearful of Him.
أعْلَمُ النّاسِ بِاللّهِ أرْضاهُمْ بِقَضائِهِ.
دانشمندترینِ مردم به خداوند سبحان، راضی‌ترینِ ایشان به سرنوشتِ اوست.
The most learned of people about Allah, the Glorified, are the most satisfied with His decree.
أعْظَمُ النّاسِ عِلْماً أشَدُّهُمْ خَوْفاً لِلّهِ سُبْحانَهُ.
بزرگ‌ترینِ مردم در دانش، شدیدترینِ ایشان در بیمِ از خداوند سبحان.
The greatest of people in knowledge are the most intense in [their] fear of Allah, the Glorified.
أعْلَمُ النَّاسِ بِاللّهِ أكْثَرُهُمْ خَشْيَةً لَهُ.
دانشمندترینِ مردم به خدا، خاشع‌ترینِ ایشان به اوست.
The most learned of people about Allah are those who are most fearful of Him.
أبْغَضُ العِبادِ إلَى اللّهِ سُبْحانَهُ العالِمُ المُتَجَبِّرُ.
مبغوض‌ترینِ بندگان نزدِ خداوند سبحان، دانشمندِ متکبر است.
The most hated of servants in the sight of Allah is the haughty scholar.
أعْظَمُ النّاسِ وِزِراً اَلعُلَماءُ المُفَرِّطُونَ.
سنگین‌ترینِ مردم در بارِ گناه، دانشمندانِ فاسق‌اند.
Those with the greatest burden among the people are the scholars who exceed the limits.
أشَدُّ النّاسِ نَدَماً عِنْدَ المَوْتِ العُلَماءُ غَيْرُ العامِلِينَ.
پشیمان‌ترینِ مردم هنگامِ مرگ، دانشمندانِ عمل‌نکننده‌اند.
The most regretful of all people at the time of death are the scholars who don’t act on their knowledge.
أعْلَمُ النّاسِمَنْ لَمْ يُزِلِ الشَّكُّ يَقينَهُ.
دانشمندترینِ مردم آن است که شک، یقینش را نراند.
The most learned of people is one whose doubt does not dispel his certainty.
أعْلَمُ النّاسِبِاللّهِ أكْثَرُهُمْ لَهُ مَسْئَلَةً.
دانشمندترینِ مردم به خدا، بیشترینِ ایشان در سوالِ از اوست.
The person who is most learned about Allah is he who asks from Him the most.
إنَّ رُواةَ العِلْمِ كَثِيرٌ، ورُعاتَهُ قَليلٌ.
همانا راویانِ دانش بسیارند و پاسبانانِ آن اندک.
Verily the narrators of knowledge are many, but those who are careful of [acting upon] it are few.
إنَّ أوْلَى النّاسِ بِالأنْبِياءِ ـ عَلَيْهِمُ السّلامُ ـ أعْلَمُهُمْ (اَعْمَلُهُم) بِما جاؤُاْ بِهِ.
همانا سزاوارترِ مردم به [هدایتِ] پیامبران — سلامِ خدا بر ایشان — دانشمندترینِ ایشان (یا عمل‌کننده‌ترین‌شان) به آنچه آورده‌اند است.
Verily the people who are most deserving of the [guidance of the] Prophets - peace be upon them - are those who have the most knowledge about (or act upon) their teachings.
يُكْرَمُ العالِمُ لِعِلْمِهِ، والكَبيرُ لِسِنِّهِ، وذُو المَعْرُوفِ لِمَعْرُوفِهِ، وَالسُّلْطانُ لِسُلْطانِهِ.
دانشمند به سببِ دانشش، پیر به سببِ سالش، و نیکوکار به سببِ نیکی‌اش، و شهریار به سببِ فرمانروایی‌اش گرامی داشته شود.
The scholar is honoured because of his knowledge, the elderly because of his age, the doer of good because of his goodness and the king because of his kingship.
اَلعُلَماءُ حُكَّامٌ عَلَى النّاسِ.
دانشمندان داورانِ بر مردم‌اند.
The scholars are judges over the people.
