سُنَّةُ الكِرامِ الوَفاءُ بِالعُهُودِ.
سنتِ بزرگواران، وفای به عهدهاست.
Keeping promises is the practice of the honourable ones.
عَلَيْكَ بِالوَفاءِ فَإنَّهُ أوْقى(أوفى) جُنَّة.
بر وفای باش، که همانا ایمن‌ترینِ سپر است.
You must espouse loyalty, for it is the most protective shield.
اَلوَفاءُ حِلْيَةُ العَقْلِ، وعُنْوانُ النُّبْلِ.
وفای، آرایهٔ خرد و نشانهٔ نجابت است.
Loyalty is the ornament of the intellect and the symbol of nobility.
أشْرَفُ الخَلائِقِ الوَفاءُ.
ارجمندترینِ خوی‌ها وفای است.
The most honourable characteristic is loyalty.
اَلوَفاءُ كَرَمٌ، اَلمَوَدَّةُ رَحِمٌ.
وفای، بزرگواری است و دوستی، رحم است.
Loyalty is honour, friendship is compassion.
اَلوَفاءُ عُنْوانُ الصَّفاءِ.
وفای، نشانهٔ صفایی (پاکی) است.
Loyalty is a symbol of purity.
اَلْوَفاءُ حِصْنُ السُّؤْدَدِ.
وفای، دژِ سرداری است.
Loyalty is the fortress of eminence.
اَلوَعْدُ مَرَضٌ، والبُرْءُ إنْجازُهُ.
وعده، بیماری است و شفا، انجامِ آن است.
A promise is an ailment and its cure is its fulfilment.
ما باتَ لِرَجُل عِنْدي مَوْعِدٌ قَطُّ، فَباتَ يَتَمَلْمَلُ عَلى فِراشِهِ، لِيَغْدُوَ بِالظَّفَرِ بِحاجَتِهِ أشَدُّ مِنْ تَمَلْمُلي عَلى فِراشي، حِرْصاً عَلَى الخُرُوجِ إلَيْهِ مِنْ دَيْنِ عِدَتِهِ وخَوْفاً مِنْ عائِق يُوجِبُ الخُلْفَ، فَإنَّ خُلْفَ الوَعْدِ لَيْسَ مِنْ أخْلاقِ الكِرامِ.
هرگز با مردی موعدی نزد من نبوده که بر بسترش بیقرار مانَد تا صبح به حاجتش نائل شود، مگر آنکه بیقراریِ من بر بسترم از بیقراریِ او بر بسترش بیشتر بود، از بایستگیِ برخاستن به سوی او و برآیندهٔ دینِ وعده‌اش و بیمِ مانعی که واگذاشتن (خلف) را در پی دارد؛ که همانا خلفِ وعده از اخلاقِ بزرگواران نیست.
I have never slept with a promise I made to someone that had remained unfulfilled, thereby causing him to toss and turn restlessly in his bed so that he could successfully get what he needs [from me in the morning] but that my restlessness on my bed was much greater as a result of my desperation to meet him and fulfil the debt of his promise and out of fear of a hindrance that could cause its reneging, for indeed reneging on a promise is not from the characteristics of the honourable.
مِلاكُ الوَعْدِ إنْجازُهُ.
بنیادِ وعده، انجامِ آن است.
The basis of a promise is its fulfilment.
نِعْمَ الخَليقَةُ الوَفاءُ.
چه نیکو خویی وفای است!
How good a characteristic loyalty is!
نِعْمَ قَرينُ الصِّدْقِ الوَفاءُ، ونِعْمَ رَفيقُ التَّقْوى اَلْوَرَعُ.
چه نیکو هم‌دمی برای راستی وفای است و چه نیکو رفیقی برای تقوا، پرهیزگاری است!
How good a companion of truthfulness loyalty is, and how good an associate of God-wariness piety is!
نِعْمَ قَرينُ الأمانَةِ الوَفاءُ.
چه نیکو هم‌دمی برای امانت وفای است!
How good a companion of trustworthiness loyalty is!
وَعْدُ الكَريمِ نَقْدٌ وتَعْجيلٌ.
وعدهٔ بزرگوار، نقد و شتاب است.
The promise of an honourable person is immediate and swift.
وَعْدُ اللَّئيمِ تَسْويفٌ، وتَعْليلٌ.
وعدهٔ پست‌کار، تأخیر و عذرآوردن است.
The promise of a wicked person is delayed and full of excuses.
لاتَعِدْ بِما تَعْجِزُ عَنِ الوَفاءِ بِهِ.
به آنچه توانِ وفای به آن را نداری وعد مده.
Do not promise that which you are incapable of fulfilling.
لاتَضْمَنْ مالاتَقْدِرُ عَلَى الوَفاءِ بِهِ.
آنچه توانِ وفای به آن را نداری تضمین مکن.
Do not guarantee that which you are incapable of fulfilling.
لاتَعِدَنَّ عِدَةً لاتَثِقُ مِنْ نَفْسِكَ بِإنْجازِها.
هرگز وعده‌ای مده که از خود بر انجامش اعتماد نداری.
Never make a promise that you are not confident you will be able to keep.
غَيْرُ مُوف بِالعُهُودِ مَنْ أخْلَفَ الوُعُودَ.
آن کس که وعده‌ها را نشکند، به عهدها وفای ندارد.
He who breaks his promises is not loyal in his covenants.
