اَلأجَلُ يَفْضَحُ الأمَلَ.

اجل، آرزو را رسوا کند.

Death exposes hope.

حکمت ۶۲ — موضوع ۶ · The Appointed Time Of DeathSaying 62 — The Appointed Time Of Death

اَلأجلُ حَصادُ الأمَلِ.

اجل، دروِ آرزوست.

Death is the reaper of hope.

حکمت ۶۳ — موضوع ۶ · The Appointed Time Of DeathSaying 63 — The Appointed Time Of Death

إذا حَضَرَتِ الآجالُ افتَضَحَتِ الآمالُ.

چون اجل‌ها دررسند، آرزوها رسوا شوند.

When death comes, hopes are exposed.

إذا بَلَغْتُمْ نِهايَةَ الآمالِ فَاذكُرُوا بَغَتاتِ الآجالِ.

چون به پایان آرزوها رسیدید، ناگهانیِ اجل‌ها را به یاد آرید.

When you reach the end of your hopes, then remember the suddenness of death.

آفَةُ الآمالِ حُضُورُ الآجالِ.

آفت آرزوها، رسیدن اجل‌هاست.

The bane of aspirations is the coming of death.

حکمت ۶۶ — موضوع ۶ · The Appointed Time Of DeathSaying 66 — The Appointed Time Of Death

آفةُ الأمَلِ الأجَلُ.

آفت آرزو، اجل است.

The bane of hope is death.

حکمت ۶۷ — موضوع ۶ · The Appointed Time Of DeathSaying 67 — The Appointed Time Of Death

سَوْفَ يَأتيكَ أجَلُكَ فَأجْمِلْ في الطَّلَبِ.

اجلت به سویت آید؛ پس در طلب [روزی] نیکویی و میانه‌روی کن.

Your death will [soon] come to you, so be moderate in what you seek.

سابِقُوا الأجَلَ فإنَّ النَّاسَ يُوْشِكُ أنْ يَنْقَطِعَ بِهِمُ الأملُ فَيُرهِقَهُمُ الأجلُ.

با اجل مسابقت کنید که نزدیک است امید مردم بریده شود و اجل بر آنان دررسد.

Anticipate death, for verily the hopes of people are on the verge of being cut short as death comes upon them.

حکمت ۶۹ — موضوع ۶ · The Appointed Time Of DeathSaying 69 — The Appointed Time Of Death

سابِقُوا الأجَلَ، وأحْسِنُوا العَمَلَ، تَسْعَدُوا بالمَهَلِ.

با اجل پیشی گیرید و نیکو عمل کنید تا در مهلت سعادتمند شوید.

Anticipate death and do good deeds; [by this] you will attain felicity through your [hastening to good deeds while you have] respite.

حکمت ۷۰ — موضوع ۶ · The Appointed Time Of DeathSaying 70 — The Appointed Time Of Death

كُلَّما قارَبتَ أجَلاً فَأحْسِنْ عَمَلاً.

هر چه به اجلی نزدیک‌تر شوی، عمل نیکوتر کن.

Every moment you come closer to death, so improve your deeds.

لِكُلِّ أجَل حُضُورٌ.

هر اجلی را رسیدنی است.

For every appointed time there is an arrival.

حکمت ۷۲ — موضوع ۶ · The Appointed Time Of DeathSaying 72 — The Appointed Time Of Death

لِكلِّ امْرِء يَوْمٌ لايَعْدُوهُ.

هر کس را روزی است که از آن درنگذرد.

For every person there is a day that he shall not go beyond.

حکمت ۷۳ — موضوع ۶ · The Appointed Time Of DeathSaying 73 — The Appointed Time Of Death

لِكُلِّ أحَد سائِقٌ مِنْ أجَلِهِ يَحْدُوهُ.

هر کس را راننده‌ای از جنس اجلش هست که او را پیش روید.

For everyone there is a driver who drives him towards his death.

حکمت ۷۴ — موضوع ۶ · The Appointed Time Of DeathSaying 74 — The Appointed Time Of Death

لَو ظَهَرَتِ الآجالُ لافْتَضَحَتِ الآمالُ

اگر اجل‌ها آشکار می‌شدند، آرزوها رسوا می‌گشتند.

If the appointed times of death were to become known, the [secret] hopes [of people] would be exposed.

حکمت ۷۵ — موضوع ۶ · The Appointed Time Of DeathSaying 75 — The Appointed Time Of Death

لَوْ رَأيْتُمُ الأجَلَ ومَسيرَهُ لأبْغَضْتُمُ الأمَلَ وغُرُورَهُ.

اگر اجل و سیرش را می‌دیدید، آرزو و فریبش را دشمن می‌داشتید.

If you were to see death and its approach, you would surely hate [false] aspiration and its deception.

حکمت ۷۶ — موضوع ۶ · The Appointed Time Of DeathSaying 76 — The Appointed Time Of Death

لَوْ فَكَّرْتُمْ في قُرْبِ الأجَلِ وَحُضُورِهِ لأمَرَّ عِنْدكُمْ حُلْوُ العَيْشِ وَسُرُورُهُ.

اگر در نزدیکی اجل و رسیدنش می‌اندیشیدید، شیرینی و شادیِ زندگی در نظرتان تلخ می‌شد.

If you were to think about the closeness of death and its [imminent] arrival, the sweetness of life and its comfort would become bitter for you.

حکمت ۷۷ — موضوع ۶ · The Appointed Time Of DeathSaying 77 — The Appointed Time Of Death

مَنْ راقَبَ أجَلَهُ قَصَّـرَ أمَلَهُ.

هر که اجلش را در نظر گیرد، آرزویش را کوتاه کند.

Whoever is mindful of his [eventual] death reduces his aspirations.

حکمت ۷۸ — موضوع ۶ · The Appointed Time Of DeathSaying 78 — The Appointed Time Of Death

مَنِ اسْتَقصَـرَ بَقائَهُ وأجَلَهُ قَصُرَ رَجاؤُهُ وأمَلُهُ.

هر که ماندنش و اجلش را کوتاه شمارَد، امید و آرزویش کوتاه شود.

Whoever regards his stay [in this world] as short and temporary, his hope and aspiration gets diminished.

حکمت ۷۹ — موضوع ۶ · The Appointed Time Of DeathSaying 79 — The Appointed Time Of Death

مَنْ جَرى في عِنانِ أمَلِهِ عَـثُرَ بِأجَلِهِ.

هر که در عنان آرزو تازد، به اجلش بلغزد.

One who rides with the reins of his aspiration stumbles over his death.

ما أقْرَبَ الأجَلَ مِنَ الأمَلِ.

چه نزدیک است اجل به آرزو!

How close hope is to death!
