لافَقْرَ مَعَ حُسْنِ تَدْبير.
با نیکو تدبیری، تهیدستی نیست.
There is no poverty with good management.
أبْلَغُ الشَّكوى ما نَطَقَ بِهِ ظاهِرُ البَلْوى.
رساترینِ شکایت، آن است که ظاهرِ بلا بر آن بگوید.
The most apprising complaint is that which is enunciated by manifest affliction.
قَليلٌ يُفْتَقَرُ إلَيْهِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ كَثير يُسْتَغْنى عَنْهُ.
اندکی که به آن نیاز است، به از بسیاری است که به آن بی‌نیازی است.
The little that one is in need of is better than the plenty that one is needless of.
لَيْسَ فِي الغُرْبَةِ عارٌ، إنَّما العارُ فِي الوَطَنِ اَلاِفْتِقارُ.
در غربت عاری نیست؛ همانا عار در میهن، تهیدستی است.
There is no shame in being far away from one’s hometown; the only shame is being indigent in one’s one hometown.
مَنْ تَفاقَرَ اِفْتَقَرَ.
هر که تهیدستی را پیشه کند، تهیدست شود.
One who pretends to be poor, becomes poor.
إظْهارُ التَّباوُسِ يَجْلِبُ الفَقْرَ.
نشان‌دادنِ نیازمندی، تهیدستی را بیاورد.
Displaying neediness gives rise to poverty.
اَلفَقْرُ مَعَ الدَّيْنِ اَلشَّقاءُ الأكْبَرُ. [^1]: This is the poverty that one does not bear patiently and leads to wretchedness in this world and the next. [^2]: ‘Red death’ is a figure of speech that means a violent or bloody death.
تهیدستی همراه با بدهی، بزرگ‌ترینِ شقاوت است.
Poverty with debt is the greatest wretchedness.
اَلْفَقيرُ الرّاضي ناج مِنْ حَبائِلِ إبْلِيسَ، والغَنِيُّ واقِعٌ في حَبائِلِهِ.
تهیدستِ راضی، نجات‌یافته از دام‌های ابلیس است و توانگر، در دام‌هایش فرو رفته است.
The pauper who is satisfied is saved from the traps of Satan, whereas the rich person falls into his snares.
أمْقَتُ العِبادِ إلَى اللّهِ اَلْفَقيرُ المَزْهُوُّ، والشَّيْخُ الزّانِ، والعالِمُ الفاجِرُ.
مبغوض‌ترینِ بندگان نزدِ خدا، تهیدستِ مغرور و پیرِ زناکار و دانشمندِ فاجر است.
The most hated of servants in the sight of Allah are: the pauper who is haughty, the elderly fornicator and the immoral scholar.
أكْثَرُ النّاسِ حُمْقاً الفَقيرُ المُتَكَبِّرُ.
ابله‌ترینِ مردم، تهیدستِ متکبر است.
The most foolish of people is the arrogant pauper.
أغْنَى النّاسِ فِي الآخِرَةِ أفْقَرُهُمْ فِي ا لدُّنيا.
توانگرترینِ مردم در آخرت، تهیدست‌ترین‌شان در دنیا‌اند.
The richest people in the Hereafter are the poorest of them in this world.
اَلفَقيرُ فِي الوَطِنِ غُرْبَةٌ(مُمْتَهَنٌ).
تهیدست در میهن، غریبه (یا مذموم) است.
The poor person is [like] a stranger (or is scorned) in his hometown.
اَلمُقِلُّ غَريبٌ في بَلْدَتِهِ.
بی‌بهره (مقتِر) در شهرش غریبه است.
The needy person is a stranger in his own homeland.
جالِسِ الفُقَراءَ تَزْدَدْ شُكْراً.
نزدِ تهیدستان بنشین تا سپاست (شکرگزاری) افزون شود.
One who sits in the company of the poor increases in [his] gratitude.
رُبَّ فَقير أغْنى مِنْ كُلِّ غَنِىّ.
بسیار تهیدستی که توانگرتر از هر توانگری است.
Many a poor person is wealthier than all the rich people.
غِنَى الفَقيرِ قَناعَتُهُ.
توانگریِ تهیدست، قناعتش است.
The wealth of a poor person is his contentment.
كَمْ مِنْ فَقِير يُفْتَقَرُ إلَيْهِ.
چه بسیار تهیدستی که به او نیاز کنند.
How many a poor person is needed by someone else.
كَمْ مِنْ فَقير غَنِىّ وغَنِىّ مُفْتَقِر.
چه بسیار تهیدستی توانگر و توانگری نیازمند.
How many a poor person is rich and [how many] a rich person is needy.
مَنْ ألَحَّ عَلَيْهِ الفَقْرُ فَلْيُكْثِرْ مِنْ قَوْلِ: لاحَوْلَ ولاقُوَّةَ إلاّ بِاللّهِ العَلِيِّ العَظيمِ.
هر که تهیدستی بر او چیره شد، بسیار بگوید: «نیست توانی و نه قدری جز به خداوندِ برترِ بزرگ.»
One who is overcome by poverty should frequently recite: There is no might and no power but by [the will of] Allah, the Most High, the Most Mighty.
