By turning towards [Allah] misfortunes are warded off.

حکمت ۸۱۴۱ تا ۸۱۶۰Sayings 8141 to 8160
حُسْنُ الاِخْتيارِ، واِصْطِناعُ الأحْرارِ، وفَضْلُ الاِسْتِظْهارِ، مِنْ دَلائِلِ الإقْبالِ.
نیکو گزینش، نیکی به آزادگان، و فضیلتِ احتیاط، از نشانه‌هایِ روی‌آوردن [به خدا] است.
Making a good choice, doing good to the freemen and taking adequate precaution [or support] are from the signs of turning [to Allah].
لِكُلِّ إقْبال إدْبارٌ.
برای هر پیش‌رفتی (اقبال) پس‌رفت (ادباری) هست.
For every advance [and progress] there is a retreat [and a regress].
مِنْ عَلاماتِ الإقْبالِ اِصْطِناعُ الرِّجالِ.
از نشانه‌هایِ روی‌آوردن [به خدا]، نیکی به مردمان است.
One of the signs of turning [towards Allah] is doing good to the people.
مِنْ عَلاماتِ الإقْبالِ: سَدادُ الأقْوالِ، والرِّفْقُ فِي الأفْعالِ.
از نشانه‌هایِ روی‌آوردن [به خدا]: درست‌گویی در سخنان و نرم‌خویی در اعمال است.
From the signs of turning [to Allah] are: correctness of speech and kindness in actions.
إنَّ أكْرَمَ المَوتِ القَتْلُ، والَّذي نَفْسي بِيَدِهِ لألْفُ ضَرْبَة بِالسَّيْفِ أهْوَنُ (عَلَيَّ) مِنْ ميتَة عَلَى الفِراشِ.
همانا گرامی‌ترینِ مرگ‌ها، شهادت است و به آن کس که جانم در دست اوست قسم، هزار ضربهٔ شمشیر بر من آسان‌تر از مرگ بر تخت (بستر) است.
Verily the most honourable of deaths is martyrdom. By He in whose hand my soul is, one thousand strikes with the sword are indeed easier [for me] than dying on the bed.
مَنِ اقْتَحَمَ اللُّجَجَ غَرِقَ.
هر که در اعماقِ دریا فرو رود، غرق شود.
One who plunges into the depths of the sea, drowns.
اَلتَّسَلُّطُ عَلَى الضَّعيفِ والمَمْلُوكِ مِنْ لُزُومِ (لُؤْمِ) القُدْرَةِ.
چیره‌شدن بر ضعیف و بنده، از پستیِ قدرت (از لوازمِ قدرت) است.
Dominating the weak and the slave are from the exigencies (or wickedness) of power.
اَلْقُدْرَةُ تُظْهِرُ مَحْمُودَ الخِصالِ ومَذْمُومَها.
قدرت، خوی‌هایِ ستوده و نکوهیده را آشکار کند.
Power manifests the praiseworthy and blameworthy qualities [of an individual].
آفَةُ القُدْرَةِ مَنْعُ الإحْسانِ.
آفتِ قدرت، دریغ‌کردنِ نیکی است.
The bane of power is withholding favour.
آفَةُ الاِقْتِدارِ اَلبَغْيُ والعُتُوُّ.
آفتِ توانمندی، بغی و سرکشی است.
The bane of might is aggression and defiance.
اَلْقُدْرَةُ تُنْسِى الحَفيظَةَ.
قدرت، پاس‌داشت (حفظ) خود را فراموش کند.
Power makes one forget [about] self-preservation.
إذا كَثُرَتِ القُدْرَةُ قَلَّتِ الشَّهْوَةُ.
چون قدرت افزون شود، هوا (هوس) کمتر شود.
When power increases, desire decreases.
إذا قَلَّتِ المَقْدُرَةُ كَثُرَ التَّعَلُّلُ بِالمَعاذِيرِ.
چون توانمندی کمتر شود، عذرآوردن افزون شود.
When [one’s] capability is reduced, the offering of excuses increases.
زَكاةُ القُدْرَةِ الإنْصافُ.
زکاتِ قدرت، انصاف است.
The alms-tax of power is even-handedness.
مِنْ أحْسَنِ أفْعالِ القادِرِ أنْ يَغْضِبَ فَيَحْلُمَ.
از نیکوترینِ کارهایِ توانمند، آن است که خشمگین شود و بردباری کند.
One of the best actions of the powerful person is for him to show forbearance when he is angry.
مَنْ جَهِلَ قَدْرَهُ عَدا طَوْرَهُ.
هر که قدرش را نداند، از حدش بگذرد.
One who does not know his worth, transgresses his limits.
مَنْ وَقَفَ عِنْدَ قَدْرِهِ أكْرَمَهُ النّاسُ.
هر که بر درجه‌اش بایستد، مردم او را گرامی دارند.
One who remains within his rank [and does not overstep his limits] is honoured by the people.
مَنْ تَعَدّى حَدَّهُ أهانَهُ النّاسُ.
هر که از حدش بگذرد، مردم او را خوار کنند.
One who oversteps his limits is humiliated by the people.
مَنْ جَهِلَ مَوْضِعَ قَدَمِهِ عَثُرَ بِدَواعِي نَدَمِهِ.
هر که جایگاهِ گامش را نداند، به سببِ پشیمانی‌هایش بر زمین زند.
One who is ignorant about the place where he steps is made to stumble by the reasons of his regret.
