كَثْرَةُ إلْحاحِ الرَّجُلِ تُوجِبُ حِرْمانَهُ.

بسیارِ بازخواستِ مرد، محرومی‌اش را در پی دارد.

The excessive importunity of a man leads to his deprivation.

مَنْ كَثُرَ إلْحاحُهُ حُرِمَ.

هر که بازخواستش بسیار شد، محروم شود.

One whose importunity increases gets deprived.

مَنْ ألَحَّ فِي السُّؤالِ أبْرَمَ.

هر که در پرسیدن الالح (بازخواست) کند، مردم را بی‌تاب کند.

One who is importunate in asking irritates [people].

هر که در پرسیدن بازخواست کند، محروم شود.

One who is importunate in asking gets deprived.

مَنْ ألَحَّ في سُؤالِهِ دَعا إلى حِرْمانِهِ.

هر که در پرسیدنش بازخواست کند، به محرومی‌اش فرا خواند.

One who is importunate in his asking invites his own deprivation.

مَنْ عَرَفَ الأيّامَ لَمْ يَغْفُلْ عَنِ الاِسْتِعْدادِ.

هر که روزگار را بشناسد، از آماده‌گی غافل نباشد.

One who understands the times [in which he lives] does not neglect to prepare [for what is to come].

مَنْ أقْعَدَتْهُ نِكايَةُ الأيّامِ أقامَتْهُ مَعُونَةُ الكِرامِ.

هر که روزگار را به سستی بنشاند، یاریِ بزرگواران او را برپا دارد.

One who is crippled by the hardship of the times is raised by the assistance of the noble-minded ones.

ما أسْرَعَ السّاعاتِ فيِ الأيّامِ وأسْرَعَ الأيّامَ فيِ الشُّهُورِ وأسْرَعَ الشُّهُورَ فِي السَّنَةِ وأسْرَعَ السَّنَةَ فِي العُمْرِ.

چه شتابان ساعت‌ها در روز و چه شتابان روزها در ماه و چه شتابان ماه‌ها در سال و چه شتابان سال در عمر!

How quick the hours pass in the day and how fast the days pass in the month and how quick the months pass in the year and how fast the years pass in the lifetime!

اَلأيّامُ صَحائِفُ آجالِكُمْ فَخَلِّدُوها (فَجَلِّدُوها) أحْسَنَ أعْمالِكُمْ.

روزها، صحیفه‌هایِ اجل‌هایِ شما‌اند؛ پس آن‌ها را جاودانه کنید (به نیکوترینِ کارهایتان بیارایید).

Days are the pages of your lifetime so eternize [or bind] them with your best deeds.

اَلسّاعاتُ مُكْمَنُ الآفاتِ.

ساعت‌ها، پناهگاهِ آفت‌ها‌اند.

Hours are the lurking place of banes.

اَلأيّامُ تُفيدُ التَّجارِبَ.

گذرِ روزها، سودِ تجربه‌ها را بیاورد.

The passing of days brings the benefit of experiences.

اَلسّاعاتُ تُنَقِّصُ الأعْمارَ.

ساعت‌ها، عمرها را کم کنند.

اَلأيّامُ تُوضِحُ السَّرائِرَ الكامِنَةَ.

گذرِ روزها، رازهایِ پنهان را آشکار کند.

The passing of days reveals the hidden secrets.

إنَّما أنْتَ عَدَدُ أيّام فَكُلُّ يَوْم يَمْضي عَلَيْكَ يَمْضي بِبَعْضِكَ، فَخَفِّضْ فيِ الطَّلَبِ، وأجْمِلْ فِي المُكْتَسَبِ.

تو تنها شمارِ روزهای (مقدّر) هستی و هر روزی که بر تو می‌گذرد، تکه‌ای از تو را با خود می‌برد؛ پس در طلب، فروتن و در کسب، میانه‌رو باش.

Verily you are only [the sum total of] a fixed number of days, and every day that passes you by takes a piece of you with it, so reduce your desires and be moderate in your earning.

إنَّما أبادَ القُرُونَ تَعاقُبُ الحَرَكاتِ والسُّكُونِ.

همانا قرون (نسلسل‌ها) را تنها پی‌درپیِ حرکت و سکون ویران کرده است.

Verily the previous generations were only wiped out by the alternation of movements and stillness.

بَكْرُ السَّبْتِ والخَميسِ بَرَكَةٌ.

سحرگاهِ شنبه و پنج‌شنبه، برکت است.

زَمانُ العادِلِ خَيْرُ الأزْمِنَةِ.

روزگارِ دادگر، به‌ترینِ روزگارهاست.

The era of the just [ruler] is the best of eras.

إنَّ أوْقاتَكَ أجْزاءُ عُمْرِكَ، فَلا تُنفِدْ(فَلا تُنْفِذْ) لَكَ وَقْتاً إلاّ فيما يُنْجيكَ (في غَيْرِما يُنجيكَ).

همانا وقت‌هایت، بخش‌هایِ عمرِ توست؛ پس هیچ وقتی را جز در آنچه تو را رهایی بخشد هدر مبر.

Verily your moments are portions of your life, so do not pass your time except in that which will save you [in the Hereafter].
