حکمت ۹۰۸۱ — موضوع ۵۹۶ · The TongueSaying 9081 — The Tongueاِحْبِسْ لِسانَكَ قَبْلَ أنْ يُطيلَ حَبْسَكَ، ويُرْديَ نَفْسَكَ، فَلا شَيْءَ أوْلى بِطُولِ سِجْن مِنْ لِسان يَعْدِلُ عَنِ الصَّوابِ، ويَتَسَرَّعُ إلَى الجَوابِ.
زبان را پیش از آنکه حبست را دراز کند و جانت را هلاک کند بازدار؛ که هیچ‌چیز شایسته‌تر از طولِ زندان از زبانی نیست که از صواب عدول و به پاسخ شتاب کند.
Restrain your tongue before it prolongs your incarceration and destroys your soul, for there is nothing more worthy of long imprisonment than a tongue that has strayed from the right and is hasty in responding.
حکمت ۹۰۸۲ — موضوع ۵۹۶ · The TongueSaying 9082 — The Tongueاِحْذَرُوا اللِّسانَ فَإنَّهُ سَهْمٌ يُخْطي.
از زبان بپرهیزید، که همانا تیری است که خطا کند.
Be cautious of the tongue for indeed it is an arrow that can miss its mark.
حکمت ۹۰۸۳ — موضوع ۵۹۶ · The TongueSaying 9083 — The Tongueإيّاكَ أنْ تَجْعَلَ مَرْكَبَكَ لِسانَكَ في غَيْبَةِ إخْوانِكَ، أوْ تَقُولَ ما يَصيرُ عَلَيْكَ حُجَّةً، وفِي الإسائَةِ إلَيْك َ عِلَّةً.
مبادا زبان را مرکبِ خود در غیبتِ برادران گردانی یا آن را بگویی که بر تو حجّت شود و در بدی‌کردن به تو عذری.
Beware of making your tongue a medium for slandering your brothers, or of saying that which will become proof against you and a reason for harming you.
حکمت ۹۰۸۴ — موضوع ۵۹۶ · The TongueSaying 9084 — The Tongueألا وإنَّ اللِّسانَ بَضْعَةٌ مِنَ الإنْسانِ، فَلا يُسْعِدُهُ القَوْلُ إذَا امْتَنَعَ، وَلايُمْهِلُهُ النُّطْقُ إذَا اتَّسَعَ.
آگاه باش که زبان، تکه‌ای از بدنِ آدمی است، پس چون خود را بازدارد، سخن یاری‌اش نکند و چون گشوده شود (گوش سپرد)، سخن او را مهلت ندهد.
Know that the tongue is a part of a person’s body, so when he desists, speech will not assist him and when he opens up [and is ready to speak], speech will not give him time to pause.
حکمت ۹۰۸۵ — موضوع ۵۹۶ · The TongueSaying 9085 — The Tongueألا وَإنَّ اللِّسانَ الصّادِقَ يَجْعَلُهُ اللّهُ لِلْمَرْءِ فِي النّاسِ خَيْرٌ مِنَ المالِ يُورِثُهُ مَنْ لايَحْمَدُهُ.
آگاه باش که زبانِ راست‌گوی، آن را خداوند نزدِ مردم برای مرد، به از مالی که به کسی ارث برسد که او را ستواید، بهتر قرار دهد.
Now surely the good repute of a man that is preserved for him by Allah among the people is better than the wealth that is inherited by those who do not praise him.
حکمت ۹۰۸۶ — موضوع ۵۹۶ · The TongueSaying 9086 — The Tongueإنَّ لِسانَكَ يَقْتَضيكَ ما عَوَّدْتَهُ.
همانا زبانت از تو آنچه را که به آن عادت داده مطالبه کند.
Verily your tongue demands from you that which you have made it accustomed to.
حکمت ۹۰۸۷ — موضوع ۵۹۶ · The TongueSaying 9087 — The Tongueاَللِّسانُ تَرْجُمانُ الجَنانِ.
زبان، تفسیرکنندۀِ دل (جنّان) است.
The tongue is the interpreter of the heart.
حکمت ۹۰۸۸ — موضوع ۵۹۶ · The TongueSaying 9088 — The Tongueاَللِّسانُ جَمُوحٌ بِصاحِبِهِ.
زبان، سرکش است بر صاحبش.
The tongue is recalcitrant to its owner.
حکمت ۹۰۸۹ — موضوع ۵۹۶ · The TongueSaying 9089 — The Tongueاَللِّسانُ تَرْجُمانُ العَقْلِ.
زبان، تفسیرکنندۀِ خرد است.
The tongue is the interpreter of the intellect.
حکمت ۹۰۹۰ — موضوع ۵۹۶ · The TongueSaying 9090 — The Tongueاَلْمَرْءُ مَخْبُوءٌ تَحْتَ لِسانِهِ.
آدمی، زیرِ زبان پنهان است.
A person is hidden under his tongue.[^1]
حکمت ۹۰۹۱ — موضوع ۵۹۶ · The TongueSaying 9091 — The Tongueاَللِّسانُ سَبُعٌ إنْ أطْلَقْتَهُ عَقَرَ.
زبان، درنده‌ای است؛ اگر رهاش کنی، بگزد.
The tongue is a beast of prey, if you let it free it will injure [you].
حکمت ۹۰۹۲ — موضوع ۵۹۶ · The TongueSaying 9092 — The Tongueاَللِّسانُ ميزانُ الإنْسانِ.
زبان، ترازویِ انسان است.
The tongue is the gauge of a human being.
حکمت ۹۰۹۳ — موضوع ۵۹۶ · The TongueSaying 9093 — The Tongueاَلاْلْسُنُ تُتَرْجِمُ عَمّا تَجُنُّهُ الضَّمائِرُ.
زبان‌ها، آنچه ضمیرها را پوشانده تفسیر کنند.
The tongues reveal that which is concealed by the inner consciences.
حکمت ۹۰۹۴ — موضوع ۵۹۶ · The TongueSaying 9094 — The Tongueبَلاءُ الإنْسانِ في لِسانِهِ.
بلايِ انسان در زبانش است.
The affliction of a human being is in his tongue.
حکمت ۹۰۹۵ — موضوع ۵۹۶ · The TongueSaying 9095 — The Tongueحَدُّ السِّنانِ يَقْطَعُ الأوْصالَ، وحَدُّ اللِّسانِ يَقْطَعُ الآجالَ.
نوکِ نیزه، مفصل‌ها را بگساید و نوکِ زبان، اجل‌ها را.
The edge of a spearhead severs the appendages [of the body] whereas the edge of the tongue cuts short lifetimes.
حکمت ۹۰۹۶ — موضوع ۵۹۶ · The TongueSaying 9096 — The Tongueحَدُّ اللِّسانِ أمْضى مِنْ حَدِّ السِّنانِ.
نوکِ زبان، از نوکِ نیزه نافذتر است.
The edge of the tongue is sharper than the edge of a spearhead.
حکمت ۹۰۹۷ — موضوع ۵۹۶ · The TongueSaying 9097 — The Tongueرُبَّ لِسان أتى عَلى إنْسان.
بسیار زبانی که بر انسان چشم دوخته (نزدیک به او) است.
Many a tongue destroys a person.
حکمت ۹۰۹۸ — موضوع ۵۹۶ · The TongueSaying 9098 — The Tongueزَلَّةُ اللِّسانِ أنْكى مِنْ إصابَةِ السِّنانِ.
لغزشِ زبان، از اصابتِ نیزه دردناک‌تر است.
The slip of the tongue is more harmful than the thrust of the spearhead.
حکمت ۹۰۹۹ — موضوع ۵۹۶ · The TongueSaying 9099 — The Tongueزَلَّةُ اللِّسانِ أشَدُّ مِنْ جُرْحِ السِّنانِ.
لغزشِ زبان، از زخمِ نیزه سخت‌تر است.
The slip of the tongue is more severe than the injury caused by a spearhead.
حکمت ۹۱۰۰ — موضوع ۵۹۶ · The TongueSaying 9100 — The Tongueزَلَّةُ اللِّسانِ أشَدُّ هَلاك.
لغزشِ زبان، سخت‌ترینِ هلاکت است.
The slip of the tongue causes the greatest destruction.
