مَنْ أمِنَ مَكْرَ اللّهِ هَلَكَ.
هر که از مکرِ خدا در امان گرفت، هلاک شد.
One who feels secure from the devising of Allah is destroyed.
مَنْ أمِنَ المَكْرَ لَقِيَ الشَّـرَّ.
هر که از مکر در امان گرفت، به بدی (شر) رسید.
One who feels secure from the devising [of Allah] meets with harm.
اَلمَكُورُ شَيْطانٌ.
مَکور (پیوسته مکرکننده)، شیطان است.
The one who always hatches plots [against others] is a devil.
اَلْمَكُورُ شَيْطانٌ في صُورَةِ الإنْسانِ.
مَکور، شیطانی است در صورتِ انسان.
The one who is always scheming [against others] is a devil in the form of a human being.
مَنْ مَكَرَ حاقَ بِهِ مَكْرُهُ.
هر که مکر کند، مکرش بر او چنگ بیند.
One who schemes is afflicted by his own scheming.
مَنْ مَكَرَ بِالنَّاسِ رَدَّ اللّهُ سُبْحانَهُ مَكْرَهُ في عُنُقِهِ.
هر که بر مردم مکر کند، خداوند سبحان مکرش را به گردنش بازگرداند.
Whoever schemes against people, Allah, the Glorified, turns his scheme back on him.
لاأمانَةَ لِمَكُور.
برای مَکور (مکرکننده)، امانتی نیست.
There is no trustworthiness in the schemer.
لايَحيقُ المَكْرُ السَّيئُ إلاّ بِأهْلِهِ.
مکرِ بد، جز بر صاحبش حاقّ نشود.
Evil scheming does not beset anyone but those who practice it.
إيّاكَ والمَلَقَ، فَإنَّ المَلَقَ لَيْسَ مِنْ خَلائِقِ الإيمانِ.
از چاپلوسی (ملَق) بپرهیز، که همانا چاپلوسی از خوی‌هایِ ایمان نیست.
Beware of flattery, for indeed flattery is not from the characteristics of faith [and the faithful].
لَيْسَ المَلَقُ مِنْ خُلْقِ الأنْبِياءِ.
چاپلوسی، از خویِ پیامبران نیست.
Flattery is not part of the character of Prophets.
مَنْ كَثُرَ مَلَقُهُ لَمْ يُعْرَفْ بِشْرُهُ.
هر که چاپلوسی‌اش فزون شود، خوشروییِ (بشرِ) راستینش شناخته نشود.
One whose flattery increases, his [sincere] joyfulness is not recognized.
إنَّما يُحِبُّكَ مَنْ لايَتَمَلَّقُكَ ويُثْني عَلَيْكَ مَنْ لايَسْمَعُكَ.
همانا جز آن کس که تو را چاپلوسی نکند، تو را دوست دارد و جز آن کس که ستایشش را از تو پنهان کند، تو را ستایش می‌کند.
Verily only the one who does not flatter you [truly] adores you, and [only] one who does not make you hear his praise for you [truly] praises you.
اَلسُّلْطانُ الجائِرُ، والعالِمُ الفاجِرُ أشَدُّ النّاسِ نِكايَةً.
فرمانروایِ ستمگر و دانشمندِ فاجر، زیان‌بارترینِ مردم‌اند.
A tyrant ruler and an immoral scholar are the most harmful of all people.
اِصْحَبِ السُّلْطان َ بِالحَذَرِ،وَ الصَّدِيقَ بِالتَّواضُعِ والبِشْرِ، والعَدُوَّ بِما تَقُومُ بِهِ عَلَيْهِ حُجَّتُكَ.
با فرمانروا به بیم، با دوست به فروتنی و خوشرویی، و با دشمن به آنچه به آن بر او حجّت داری، همراه شو.
Accompany the ruler with caution, the friend with humility and cheerfulness, and the enemy with that which you can [use to] establish your proof over him.
إنَّ السُّلْطانَ لأمينُ اللّهِ فِي الأرْضِ، ومُقيمُ العَدْلِ فِي البِلادِ والعِبادِ، ووَزَعَتُهُ فِي الأرْضِ.
همانا فرمانروا، امینِ خدا بر رویِ زمین، و برپاکنندۀِ عدل در سرزمین‌ها و بندگان و بازدارندۀِ مردم از بدی در زمین است.
Verily the ruler is a trustee of Allah on earth, the establisher of justice in the lands and among the people, and the one who deters people from misdeeds in the land.
اَلسُّلْطانُ الجائِرُ يُخيفُ البَرِيَّ.
پادشاهِ ستمگر، بی‌گناهان (برآ) را بترساند.
The tyrant king frightens the innocent.
اَلأميرُ السُّوءُ يَصْطَنِعُ البَذِيَّ.
فرماندهٔ بد، رکیک‌کار را به خدمت گیرد.
An evil commander commissions the vulgar one [to work for him].
آفَةُ المُلُوكِ سُوءُ السَّريرَةِ.
آفتِ پادشاهان، بدیِ درونی (سَریره) است.
The bane of kings is evil intentions.
آفَةُ الْوُزَراءِ خُبْثُ السَّريرَةِ.
آفتِ وزیران، پلیدیِ درونی (سریره) است.
The bane of viziers is wicked inner thoughts.
