هنگام هجومِ شهوت‌ها نفست را بازدار، و هنگامِ پیش‌آمدن شبهه‌ها آن را بر کتابِ خدا استوار دار.
Turn your soul away when faced with lustful desires and make it steadfast on the book of Allah when faced with doubts.
حکمت ۹۹۸۲ — موضوع ۶۶۲ · The Soul And Holding It To AccountSaying 9982 — The Soul And Holding It To Accountرَدْعُ النَّفْسِ وجِهادُها عَنْ أهْوِيَتِها يَرْفَعُ الدَّرَجاتِ ويُضاعِفُ الْحَسَناتِ.
بازداشتنِ نفس و جهاد با آن در برابر هواهایش، درجات را بالا می‌برد و نیکی‌ها را دوچندان می‌سازد.
Restraining the soul and struggling against its vain desires raises one’s ranks and multiplies the good deeds.
حکمت ۹۹۸۳ — موضوع ۶۶۲ · The Soul And Holding It To AccountSaying 9983 — The Soul And Holding It To Accountرِضاكَ عَنْ نَفْسِكَ مِنْ فَسادِ عَقْلِكَ.
خشنودی‌ات از خویشتن، از تباهیِ خردِ توست.
Your satisfaction with yourself is an indication of the corruption of your mind.
حکمت ۹۹۸۴ — موضوع ۶۶۲ · The Soul And Holding It To AccountSaying 9984 — The Soul And Holding It To Accountرِضَا العَبْدِ عَنْ نَفسِهِ مَقْرُونٌ بِسَخَطِ رَبِّهِ
خشنودیِ بنده از خویش، با خشمِ پروردگارش همراه است.
The person’s satisfaction with himself is [always] accompanied by the displeasure of his Lord.
حکمت ۹۹۸۵ — موضوع ۶۶۲ · The Soul And Holding It To AccountSaying 9985 — The Soul And Holding It To Accountرِضَا الْمَرْءِ عَنْ نَفْسِهِ بُرْهانُ سَخافَةِ عَقْلِهِ.
خشنودیِ انسان از خود، دلیلی بر سستیِ خردِ اوست.
A man’s satisfaction with himself is evidence of his feeble-mindedness.
حکمت ۹۹۸۶ — موضوع ۶۶۲ · The Soul And Holding It To AccountSaying 9986 — The Soul And Holding It To Accountسَبَبُ صَلاحِ النَّفْسِ العُزُوفُ عَنِ الدُّنيا.
ریشه و انگیزهٔ اصلاحِ نفس، رویگردانی از دنیاست.
Turning away from [the pleasures of] this world is the means of reforming the soul.
حکمت ۹۹۸۷ — موضوع ۶۶۲ · The Soul And Holding It To AccountSaying 9987 — The Soul And Holding It To Accountسِياسَةُ النَّفْسِ أفْضَلُ سِياسَة ورِياسَةُ الْعِلْمِ أشْرَفُ رِياسَة.
تدبیرِ نفس و مهارِ آن، برترین سیاست، و سروریِ دانش، شریف‌ترین سروری است.
Governing one’s soul is the best [form of] administration and the eminency of knowledge is the most honourable pre-eminence.
حکمت ۹۹۸۸ — موضوع ۶۶۲ · The Soul And Holding It To AccountSaying 9988 — The Soul And Holding It To Accountشَرُّ الْفَقْرِ فَقْرُ النَّفْسِ.
بدترین بینوایی، بینوایی و فقرِ نفس است.
The worst indigence is poverty of the soul.

بدترینِ کارها، خشنودی از خویشتن است.
The worst thing is being pleased with oneself.
حکمت ۹۹۹۰ — موضوع ۶۶۲ · The Soul And Holding It To AccountSaying 9990 — The Soul And Holding It To Accountصَلاحُ النَّفْسِ قِلَّةُ الطَّمَعِ.
صلاحِ نفس، در کاستن از طمع است.
The uprightness of the soul is [in] reduced greed.
حکمت ۹۹۹۱ — موضوع ۶۶۲ · The Soul And Holding It To AccountSaying 9991 — The Soul And Holding It To Accountصَلاحُ النَّفْسِ مُجاهَدَةُ الْهَوى.
اصلاح و درستیِ نفس، در ستیز با هوا و هوس است.
Reformation of the soul is [achieved by] struggling against vain desires.
حکمت ۹۹۹۲ — موضوع ۶۶۲ · The Soul And Holding It To AccountSaying 9992 — The Soul And Holding It To Accountضَلالُ النُّفُوسِ بَيْنَ دَواعِي الشَّهْوَةِ والغَضَبِ.
گمراهیِ جان‌ها، در میانِ انگیزه‌های شهوت و خشم رقم می‌خورد.
The misguidance of souls is between the impulses of lust and anger.
حکمت ۹۹۹۳ — موضوع ۶۶۲ · The Soul And Holding It To AccountSaying 9993 — The Soul And Holding It To Accountثَمَرَةُ الْمُحاسَبَةِ صَلاحُ النَّفْسِ.
میوهٔ حسابرسی از خویش، اصلاحِ نفس است.
The fruit of self-appraisal is reformation of the soul.
حکمت ۹۹۹۴ — موضوع ۶۶۲ · The Soul And Holding It To AccountSaying 9994 — The Soul And Holding It To Accountزِنُوا أنْفُسَكُمْ قَبْلَ أنْ تُوازَنُوا (تُوزَنُوا) وَحاسِبُوها قَبْلَ أنْ تُحاسَبُوا، وَتَنَفَّسُوا مِنْ (قَبْلَ)ضِيقِ الخَناقِ (وانْقادُوا)قَبْلَ عُنْفِ السِّياقِ.
پیش از آنکه شما را بسنجند خویش را بسنجید، و پیش از آنکه به حسابتان برسند به حسابِ خود برسید، و پیش از تنگیِ گلوگاه نفس برآورید، و پیش از رانده شدنِ با قهر و جبر فرمان برید.
Weigh your souls before they are weighed and hold them to account before they are held to account, and breathe before the throat is constricted, and follow submissively before you are driven by force.
حکمت ۹۹۹۵ — موضوع ۶۶۲ · The Soul And Holding It To AccountSaying 9995 — The Soul And Holding It To Accountقَيِّدُوا أنْفُسَكُمْ بِالْمُحاسَبَةِ وأمْلِكُوها بِالْمُخالَفَةِ.
نفس‌هایتان را با حسابرسی در بند کشید، و با مخالفت با آن‌ها مهارشان را به دست گیرید.
Restrict your souls by holding them accountable and control them by opposition [to their whims].
حکمت ۹۹۹۶ — موضوع ۶۶۲ · The Soul And Holding It To AccountSaying 9996 — The Soul And Holding It To Accountمَنْ حاسَبَ نَفْسَهُ رَبِـحَ.
هر که به حسابِ نفسِ خویش رسد، سود بَرَد.
One who holds himself to account, gains.
حکمت ۹۹۹۷ — موضوع ۶۶۲ · The Soul And Holding It To AccountSaying 9997 — The Soul And Holding It To Accountمَنْ حاسَبَ نَفْسَهُ سَعِدَ.
هر که از نفسِ خویش حساب کشد، سعادتمند شود.
One who holds himself to account becomes felicitous.
حکمت ۹۹۹۸ — موضوع ۶۶۲ · The Soul And Holding It To AccountSaying 9998 — The Soul And Holding It To Accountمَنْ تَعاهَدَ نَفْسَهُ بِالمُحاسَبَةِ أمِنَ فِيها الْمُداهَنَةَ.
هر که بر حسابرسی از نفس مداومت ورزد، از فریبکاری و سستی در آن ایمن ماند.
One who undertakes to hold his soul to account is safe from flattery [and deceit].
حکمت ۹۹۹۹ — موضوع ۶۶۲ · The Soul And Holding It To AccountSaying 9999 — The Soul And Holding It To Accountمَنْ حاسَبَ نَفْسَهُ وَقَفَ عَلى عُيُوبِهِ وأحاطَ بِذُنُوبِهِ واسْتَقالَ الذُّنُوبَ وأصْلَحَ العُيُوبَ.
هر که به حسابِ نفسِ خویش رسد، بر عیب‌های خود آگاه شود، و بر گناهانش احاطه یابد، و از گناهان پوزش خواهد و عیب‌ها را اصلاح کند.
One who holds himself to account becomes aware of his faults and realizes his sins so he seeks forgiveness for his sins and tries to correct his faults.
حکمت ۱۰۰۰۰ — موضوع ۶۶۲ · The Soul And Holding It To AccountSaying 10000 — The Soul And Holding It To Accountطُوبى لِمَنْ كانَ لَهُ مِنْ نَفْسِهِ شُغْلٌ شاغِلٌ عَنِ النّاسِ.
خوشا به حال کسی که پرداختن به عیب‌های خویش، او را از عیب‌های مردم بازداشته است.
Blessed is the one who has in his soul that which keeps him preoccupied from the [faults of other] people.
