هر که همتش کوچک باشد، فضیلتش باطل گردد.

مَنْ شَرُفَتْ هِمَّتُهُ عَظُمَتْ قيمَتُهُ.
هر که همتش شریف باشد، ارزش و منزلتش بزرگ شود.
One whose endeavour is honourable, his value becomes great.
مَنْ كَبـرَتْ هِمَّتُهُ عَزَّ مَرامُهُ.
هر که همتش بلند باشد، هدف و مقصودش عزیز و والا گردد.
One whose endeavour is great, his cause is worthy.
اِقْصِرْ هِمَّتَكَ عَلى ما يَلْزِمُكَ، ولاتَخُضْ فيما لايَعْنيكَ.
همتِ خود را بر آنچه لازمِ توست منحصر دار، و در آنچه به تو ارتباط ندارد وارد مشو.
Confine your endeavour to that which is necessary for you and do not enter into that which does not concern you.
مَنْ رَقى دَرَجاتِ الهِمَمِ عَظَّمَتْهُ الأُمَمُ.
هر که به پله‌های بلندهمتی فرا رود، ملت‌ها او را بزرگ دارند.
One who rises to the [higher] levels of endeavour [and determination] is glorified [and considered as great] by the nations.
مَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ هَمُّهُ ما عِنْدَاللّهِ سُبْحانَهُ لَمْ يُدْرِكْ مُناهُ.
هر که همتش دستیابی به آنچه نزد خدای سبحان است نباشد، به آرزویش نرسد.
One whose concern is not for [attaining] that which is with Allah, the Glorified, does not realize his aspiration.
لاتَهْتِمَنَّ إلاّ فيما يُكْسِبُكَ أجْراً ولاتَسْعَ إلاّ فِي اغْتِنامِ مَثُوبَة.
اهتمام مورز مگر در امری که برایت پاداش آورد، و مکوش مگر در غنیمت شمردنِ ثواب.
Never concern yourself with anything except that which will earn you recompense and do not strive except in gaining reward.
عَلى قَدْرِ الهِمَّةِ تَكُونُ الحَمِيَّةُ.
غیرت و حمیتِ انسان، به اندازهٔ همتِ اوست.
One’s zeal is [proportionate] to the extent of one’s endeavour.
قَدْرُ الرَّجُلِ عَلى قَدْرِهِمَّتِهِ، وعَمَلُهُ عَلى قَدْرِ نِيَّتِهِ.
ارزشِ هر انسانی به اندازهٔ همتِ او، و کردارش به اندازهٔ نیتِ اوست.
The value of a man is proportionate to his endeavour and [the value of] his action is to the extent of his intention.
ما رَفَعَ امْرَءً كَهِمَّتِهِ، ولاوَضَعَهُ كَشَهْوَتِهِ.
هیچ چیز انسان را چون بلندهمتی‌اش بالا نمی‌برد، و هیچ چیز او را چون شهوتش فرود نمی‌آورد.
Nothing raises a person like his [earnest] endeavour and nothing lowers him like his lustful desire.
هُمُومُ الرَّجُلِ عَلى قَدْرِ هِمَّتِهِ، وغَيْرَتُهُ عَلى قَدْر حَمِيَّتِهِ.
اهتمام و دغدغه‌های مرد به اندازهٔ همتِ او، و غیرتش به اندازهٔ تعصب و پایمردیِ اوست.
The worries of a man are to the extent of his endeavour and his sense of honour is to the extent of his zeal.
لاتَجْعَلْ أكْبـَرَ هَمِّكَ بِأهْلِكَ ووَلَدِكَ، فَإنَّهُمْ إنْ يَكُونُوا أوْلِياءَ اللّهِ سُبْحانَهُ فَإنَّ اللّهَ لايُضَيِّعُ وَلِيَّهُ، وإنْ يَكُونُوا أعْداءَ اللّهِ فَما هَمُّكَ بِأعْداءِ اللّهِ.
بزرگ‌ترین همّ و غمت را خانواده و فرزندانت قرار مده؛ چراکه اگر آنان دوستانِ خدای سبحان باشند، خداوند هرگز دوستش را وا نمی‌گذارد، و اگر دشمنانِ خدا باشند، تو را با دشمنانِ خدا چه کار؟!
Do not make your family and children your greatest concern, for indeed if they are friends of Allah, the Glorified, then Allah does not forsake His friend, and if they are the enemies of Allah then what is your concern for the enemies of Allah?
لاتُشْعِرْ قَلْبَكَ الْهَمَّ عَلى ما فاتَ، فَيَشْغَلَكَ عَمّا هُوَ آت.
دلت را بر آنچه از دست رفته اندوهگین مساز، که تو را از آنچه در پیش است بازمی‌دارد.
Do not allow yourself to feel sorrow for what you have lost such that it preoccupies you from what is [yet] to come.
مَنْ تَهَوَّرَ نَدِمَ.
هر که بی‌گدار و شتاب‌زده به کاری دست زند، پشیمان شود.
One who acts irresponsibly regrets.
مَنْ رَكِبَ الأهْوالَ اِكْتَسَبَ الأمْوالَ.
هر که بر خطرات و دشواری‌ها سوار شود، اموال و غنیمت‌ها به دست آورد.
Whoever embarks on the frightful [and risky] earns wealth.
مَنِ اسْتَهانَ بِالرِّجالِ قَلَّ.
هر که مردم را خوار شمارد، ارزشش کاهش یابد.
Whoever treats people with disdain, [his status] diminishes.
اِغْلِبُوا أهْوائَـكُمْ، وهارِبُوها، فَإنَّها إنْ تُقَيِّدْكُمْ تُورِدْكُمْ مِنَ الهَلَكَةِ أبْعَدَ غايَة.
بر هواهای نفستان چیره شوید و از آن‌ها بگریزید؛ چراکه اگر شما را در بند کشند، به دورترین مراتبِ هلاکت درمی‌اندازند.
Overcome your vain desires and flee from them, for indeed if they capture you they will take you into the farthest depths of destruction.
إيّاكُمْ وتَمَكُّنَ الهَوى مِنْكُمْ، فَإنَّ أوَّلَهُ فِتْنَةٌ، وآخِرَهُ مِحْنَةٌ.
بپرهیزید از اینکه هوس بر شما دست یابد؛ چراکه آغازش فتنه‌انگیزی و فرجامش محنت و رنج است.
Beware of allowing vain desire to gain control over you for indeed its beginning is temptation and its end is tribulation.
اَلا وإنَّ أخْوَفَ ما أخافُ عَلَيْكُمْ اِتِّباعُ الهَوى، وطُولُ الأمَلِ.
آگاه باشید که ترسناک‌ترین چیزی که از آن بر شما بیم دارم، پیروی از هوای نفس و آرزوی دور و دراز است.
Indeed, the thing I fear most for you is [the result of your] following vain desires and having lengthy aspirations.
اَلْهَوى يُرْدي.
هوای نفس، هلاک‌کننده است.
Vain desire destroys.
